Opening of the ‘Wooden Characters’ exhibition by Johannes Hepp on Sunday 6 September.
We are pleased to present the wooden sculptures of Johannes Hepp. Wood forms the basis of virtually the entire sculptural oeuvre of Johannes Hepp. He deliberately chooses this age-old material because of the vitality, texture and individual character of each type of wood. Traces of chiselling, carving and sawing remain visible and contribute to the character of his sculptures.
People are central to his work. His figures emerge from memories, observations, dreams and encounters. They are not portraits, but recognisable human types who sometimes appear vulnerable, headstrong or lost. With humour and a touch of absurdism, Hepp explores human desires, insecurities, relationships and our place in the world.
