film screening “deluge” by Meejin Hong:
We will screen Deluge, an animated short-film constructed from ink and 24 frames by Meejin Hong. Each frame is a drawing that is photographed, added to, and re-photographed again. This infinite animation technique conveys a state of continual transformation. In Deluge the process is pushed to the extreme in hopes of finding resolution through the exhaustion of resources. A chaotic assemblage is inevitable as is the desire for peace.
Flying Carpets by Hüma Birgül:
Hüma Birgül presents her work The Flying Carpet. The artist proposes the outlines of a carpet that wait to be adorned with drawings by the audience. It is a site-specific work, each space requires a different carpet to pull the room together. Hüma came up with this carpet made of tape and coloured with pens when she couldn’t find a real carpet during an event – so, why not to make one herself? The carpets also remind her of Turkish hospitality. Throughout the weekend, our very own Flying Carpet will emerge.
in conversation with Knust Press about Slimtarra:
The walls of Extrapool are covered in different, colourful wallpapers – our very own Slimtarra’s! A unique pattern appears when the RISO-printed sheets are wallpapered alongside each other. For many years we have invited artists to contribute to this ongoing project with new designs. This is a moment for us to look back on all these patterns that have been printed by Knust Press and exhibited in Extrapool, layer over layer.
a new wallpaper by Zoë d’Hont:
Zoë d’Hont’s work for Extrapool embraces the room and stretches into the three-dimensional as it expands its pattern along the walls. She creates a new Slimtarra-wallpaper for the occasion of this Swamp-weekend, which is inspired by the recent Artemis II mission. The starting point is a spectrogram of the critical moment before the spaceship enters a 40-minute 'loss of signal'. The pattern that emerges on the page appears and disappears in infinite space.
