Extrapool is an independent art space for experimental music, performance art, screenings, small press publications and exhibitions. We show the unpolished.

Located in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. Extrapool operates in three work fields: sound, art and print and we try to work together as much as possible. Extrapool offers the highest quality experimental performance art (e.g. Kant Noch Wal), sound installations (e.g. Brombron) and extreme/rough print products (Knust) in the Netherlands and internationally. The focus is on DIY culture, graphic designers

, new artists without large distribution networks, and fringe artists with semi-popular concepts. We offer the experiment that might go wrong. We undo music. Our stage, our auditorium, is best described as: a remarkable context in a flexible, changing, adaptable setting. On the one side informal and intimate, on the other side explicit (dominant) and 'artistic'.

Some glimpses into Creating Espacios, our zine launch and workshop last Friday! The zine emerged as a collaboration between Constanza Lobos and Marileen La Haije from Radboud University with , and of course our very own . We talked about zine-making, care ethics, and how artistic practices can allow for a diversity of voices and mediums to come together. In the second part, Constanza Lobos hosted a beautiful zine-making workshop.

Extrapool zoekt een PR-coördinatoor voor 8 uur per week!

We zijn op zoek naar een nieuwe medewerker die zich herkent in het profiel van ons collectief en zich wil inzetten voor de zichtbaarheid en herkenbaarheid van Extrapool. We zoeken iemand die vanuit de inhoud mee wil denken over communicatie en ideeën heeft over hoe we ons publiek het beste bereiken.

Je werkt nauw samen met onze fondsenwerver en het programmateam van Extrapool. Je bent alert en communicatief en bekend met het veld waarin Extrapool zich begeeft. We zoeken bovenal iemand die strategisch kan denken, zelfstandig kan werken en zich kan verplaatsen in het publiek.

🎹Synthese: Prophän & Cengiz Arslanpay🎹

Come join us on March 26, when Prophän and Cengiz Arslanpay conclude their residencies with a concert at Extrapool. In February, at the invitation of Utrecht-based Synthese, Cengiz Arslanpay worked with Mohamed Said and Prophän during an initial residency in Tangier, Morocco. In March, they met again at the Extrapool studio. Together, they explored Hmadcha Sufi rituals, ceremonies often involving hypnotic drumming, chanting, and ecstatic body movements.

🌱Onland🌱

Onland is a word used for wetlands unfit for cultivation, too complex and strange to make sense of. For the past year Extrapool has been making programs called Swamps, embracing our bubbling magical chaos. Now, Extrapool is going introspective with Onland, a swampy program about the swamp.

During two consecutive weekends in April and May Extrapool will host the mystical creations and stories of Dakota Magdalena Mokhammad. Together, we’ll find our way through Pedro Matias’ emotional mapping, engage in a symbiotic relationship with Alga’s bar from EAT ART collective, witness the performative collaboration between Eva Garibaldi and Matilde Stolfa and have a spongy movie night with Moss Berke.

The second exhibition for Destillaat is coming up soon! In the upcoming weekend, the artists will share the new work they've made during their residency at Extrapool. Every year, Extrapool visits the graduation exhibitions of the Dutch art academies. In February, we invite a selection of promising freshly graduated artists for a two-week working period at Extrapool. Together, we will organize two exhibitions; starting in the main space the presentation will branch throughout the whole building, from kitchen to bathroom, from basement to roof, with old and new work in a Glimpse of what’s to come!

Thank you for joining us for our final Swamp program of the year: Dagboek, Nachtboek! A fantastical exploration of different forms of knowledge making and story telling.

We'd like to thank for the beautiful paintings that adorned our walls, .patat for the wonderful sculpture installation and storytelling, for the bombastic and captivating performance, and for the curation of our sci-fi movie night featuring Born in Flames, as well as the introduction of our little feminist sci fi library nook!

Catch us again at the end of December when we come back for Wintermarket on the 20th.
