iFi Audio is vooral bekend voor kleine kastjes die vooral het mobiel luisteren beter maken. Maar de Pro-familie waar de gloednieuwe iDSD toe behoort bewijst dat de Britten geen problemen hebben om ook high-end desktoptoestellen voor thuis en in de studio te bouwen.

"De iFi is om meerdere redenen een begeerlijk kleinood. Allereerst vanwege het sexy uiterlijk. Het glanzende, golvende ontwerp wekt in mij – en vele anderen, als ik de geluiden op internet goed interpreteer – een prettig soort begeerte op. Maar ook de klank, waarmee iFi voorzichtig lijkt te breken met hun tot nu toe wat warmere signatuur, is van een klasse die de prijs van de xDSD flink overstijgt. De kers op de taart is absoluut de mogelijkheid om hem draadloos te gebruiken. iFi heeft vrij lang gewacht met ‘hun’ draadloze mobiele oplossing. Ook hun voor thuisgebruik bedoelde nano iOne was niet bepaald een trendsetter. Maar dat gaf ze wél de mogelijkheid om eerst even de markt af te tasten en te bepalen wat de consument verwacht. De manier waarop het concept wordt ingevuld is derhalve ‘spot-on’: het pakket aan praktische functionaliteit dat je krijgt is verbazingwekkend compleet. Of je de iFi xDSD nu onderweg gebruikt of thuis, hij laat je op soevereine wijze genieten van muziek."

Our Portable Multitest USB DAC review is now translated in English.

Conclusion: "After a multi-test you always expect a clear winner and a best buy. If I had to pick, the Zorloo ZuperDAC and the Encore mDSD are definitely best buys. The clear winner is the iFi nano iDSD Black Label, and I think it will stay at the top of my list for a while. In addition to two different headphone outputs, there is also a line output so that it can really be used in any situation. Maybe you did not notice, but except for the Apple Audio Adapter, no DAC scored really bad. So no wrong choices here. But why would you go for mediocre when you can have studio quality in your pocket for just a few bucks?" Sander van der Heide

iFi xDSD is a portable bluetooth usb da-converter in a small and tasteful enclosure. It has an analog volume control where the k**b changes color from blue to red when you turn up the volume. xDSD has several inputs such as: USB, optical and coaxial S/PDIF, but also wireless via Bluetooth.

xDSD plays sample rates from PCM 768 kHz, DSD512 and is compatible with MQA. Beside of that you can use the output as a line output or headphone output.

The iFi xDSD is a compact and versatile da-converter and now available.
