25/02/11 - MaasBASS vol. 1 @ Landbouwbelang, feat.

Right around a time when dubstep music was hitting the mainstream, in the February of 2011, a couple of bass lovers in the South of the Netherlands had a slightly different idea. What started out originally as a one-off night in Maastricht's infamous Landbouwbelang, featuring as DJs residents Dyzz & Rebus and l'argent, ended up filling up to its 500-people capacity in less than an hour, leaving a

line of 500 more waiting to get in in spite of the cold. Moving to the Muziekgieterij for the second edition, MaasBASS quickly became a recognised name, holding a firm dedication to the deeper end of sounds rooted firmly in bass music culture, from dubstep to drum'n'bass to house and techno, and hosting a wide range of some of the finest talent currently at work from across the Netherlands, Belgium and the UK. Now in the second half of 2012, after a difficult first half that saw us temporarily losing our home venue, due to the local authorities, MaasBASS is preparing for an all-new sonic assault from the newly revamped Muziekgieterij. With a whole host of exciting new talent waiting to be showcased, one thing is for certain - the sounds of MaasBASS are continuing to grow into something formidable. After the sacrifices made, something rose from the smouldering ashes in the Lands of Nether. A strange entity of light, which had been brewing below the grounds of the mythical city of Eindhoviah for some years now, illuminated the skies with 4 giant beams - each one a different color - and triggere...

Dear MaasBASS Family,

This is an unfortunate announcement that we have to make, and should have made already some time ago, but never got around to it. Some of you may be wondering, and some of you may have heard rumours already, but the fact is, that the Muziekgieterij have cancelled us for the next season, at least as things have been for the last season, due to both professional as well as personal differences. This decision has shaken us greatly, since it also came a little bit out of the blue, but at the same time it has forced us to rethink in many ways the way we have run MaasBASS over the last half year, and that in my personal opinion just has not been good enough.

Having said all of this, I will still be sticking around in Maastricht for a bit longer, and my love for all things bass has not dithered, so there will be more of us to come in the upcoming season, perhaps under a new banner. These are things that we are currently working on, and once things are more finalised, you will be first to hear of it on this space. So if you liked what we did and have done for the last 2 and a half years, then you can be guaranteed that there will be more to come in the near future, with a greater diversity in representing the full spectrum of bass music. And I just wanted to say thank you to you guys once more for letting us share with you the music we love and bringing some of the biggest and best names in bass music to Maastricht.
