Open call: Echoes of the Meuse-Rhine

We nodigen jonge componisten (max. 30 jaar) uit om voorstellen in te dienen voor de ontwikkeling van nieuwe werken voor ensemble met elektronica, waarin ruimtelijke audio wordt verkend.

De geselecteerde componisten krijgen de kans om het werk te realiseren met steun van de partners van het Echoes of the Meuse-Rhine-project. We bieden artistieke begeleiding, workshops en productiesteun. De nieuwe stukken worden uitgevoerd door Ensemble Hopper op unieke erfgoedlocaties in de Euregio Maas-Rijn.

We vragen aanvragers een voorstel in te dienen voor een compositie die: akoestische instrumentatie combineert met elektronische muziek en ruimtelijke audio; verder gaat dan de traditionele concertzaal en locatiegebonden concepten verkent; blijk geeft van creativiteit, originaliteit en haalbaarheid; en kan worden uitgevoerd en relevant is op 6 unieke erfgoedlocaties, waarbij de akoestiek in de compositie wordt geïntegreerd

Tomorrow 25.03: Klankcompositie GMS⁠

Tomorrow a listening kiosk will be unveiled on Vijgenweg in the GMS neighbourhood of Heerlen, featuring a composition by the city composer Angela de Weijer. The sound composition GMS – an initiative of the GMS Neighbourhood Coalition and Intro in Situ – is based on stories from the neighbourhood collected by the city composer over the past year.⁠

Tonight: Kameel + Blöd Heinie

Kameel will be performing their new album Variomatic tonight at the Bankastudio’s. Expect the usual collision between jazz, rock and electronics. Blöd Heinie will be spinning some vinyl before and after their set. Don’t miss it!

17.10 Intro x DMFF

The international mountain film festival Dutch Mountain Film Festival (DMFF) and Intro present the film Muyeres by director Marta Lallana. Tuba player, vocalist and composer Carl Ludwig Hübsch from Berlin frames the evening with a solo tuba performance in which he blends the tuba with his voice.

“The female protagonists of this film are some of the last living bearers of the Asturian oral tradition. This tradition is made up of songs, romances and knowledge that are more than 500 years old and has survived through the oral memory of our ancestors. What drove me to undertake this project was the will to portray these women, to film their identity before it is irrevocably forgotten.”

Friday live at Intro! Seeds Quartet!

Presenting the seed as a symbol of both trauma and transformation, Seeds Quartet seeks to evoke colonial memory and spiritual endurance, exploring themes of survival, faith, and the interconnectedness of all things.

Rooted in poetry, the group draws inspiration from the Persian poet and Sufi mystic Rumi—specifically his piece The Seed Market—as well as an original poem by Tamara, centered on a nearly forgotten African rice variety with deep cultural significance.

🌱03.10 Seeds Quartet, live at Intro!

Colonialism and diaspora resonate through the music of the Seeds Quartet, which brings together poet and cellist Tamara Walcott with the trio of Rasha Ragab, Christoph Nicolaus and composer Lucio Capece (bass clarinet). The ensemble draws inspiration from Persian poet and Sufi mystic Rumi and from Walcott’s poem “Poem for Oryza”, which tells the cultural story of an almost forgotten African rice variety.

The ticket sale for Eldorado has started! ⁠

Vacant properties in rural areas, drug-related crime, and the plight of farmers. How do we deal with these issues? How do we make them discussable? These are the themes explored in the musical theater production Eldorado, starring Björn van der Doelen in one of the leading roles. The play shows—sometimes in a hilarious way—how the underworld and the upper world become intertwined and how close subversion is to all of us. ⁠

Eldorado can be seen on October 2, 4, 5, 9, and 10 at the farm of Pieter and Marcel Lucassen, Siebengewaldseweg 135, Bergen in North Limburg. ⁠

With compositions provided by intro’s old director Bart van Dongen; musicians from the region and the Caecilia choir from Ottersum will provide the musical accompaniment from the stage. The conductor is Jacques Dubois.⁠

Tonight: The Names, Koen Nutters, 20:30 at the Savelbergkapel Heerlen.

We are closing off our time at with one last performance in the Savelbergkapel. This last performance, inspired by 1960s jazz harmonies and intellectuals is something you certainly don’t want to miss!
