Food Lab - Jan van Eyck Academie

Food Lab - Jan van Eyck Academie Combined, these three principles support and encourage an experimental approach to the preparation and preservation of our food.

The Jan van Eyck's Food lab acts as an in-depth research platform to facilitate artists and designers who work with food as a medium so that they have a place to experiment practically and incubate their developing research. The café-restaurant is situated at the heart of the academy and offers a unique opportunity for artists, staff and members of the public to meet, enjoy a hearty vegetarian/veg

an lunch and interact. One of the core values of the Jan van Eyck is the value of food and shared eating spaces, considering the dinner table as a fundamental platform for discussion and conversation. Our concept and vision for the lunch café is based around three main principles; local, seasonal, and organic produce from mostly independent small-holding farmers, absolute minimum waste, recycling and plant-based sustainability.

We are very pleased to have Suzanne as part of the amazing selection of artists who are part of the Food Lab this year! For a more thorough understanding of her beautiful work, please visit her website or insta (see link below) 💚

Reposted from Suzanne Bernhardt's practice revolves around fieldwork, material experiments and immaterial memories. She uses trace as an act and as an artefact to translate the moving, the inquiry, the path into the solid, the residue. These residues become the speculative players of performances, food events, workshops, film and settle into everyday life.

Suzanne now researches how indigenous knowledge can be traced back through ourselves and our surroundings, regardless of the origin. Making use of clay as a vehicle, she focuses on developing new habits and material surroundings in collaboration with both human and non-human local settlers.

Posted • .bernhardt Translocating alpine raw milk cultures from 2000 meters altitude to the low curved lines of Limburgs landscape. [...] What does the movement of (food) products mean to our connection with an environment? How can we connect to foreign cultures, if the environment allows them to survive? Current times allow us to eat without borders, where the in-between has become invisible. How can we re-connect to the journey?
