One of the leading film festivals in the Netherlands. 21st Edition: Oct 8 - Oct 18! The 18th edition will take place from October 26 till November 5, 2022.

Founded in 2006, the Leiden International Film Festival (LIFF) has become one of the leading film festivals in the Netherlands showcasing feature films that examine the border between art-house and mainstream from all over the world.

Are you between 16 and 23 years old and do you have a passion for film? You now have a chance to join the LIFF 2026 Youth Jury.

🎥 Watch an exclusive selection of films, connect with other film enthusiasts, attend in-depth workshops to improve your skills as a juror and walk the official red carpet and experience the festival up close.

Send a motivation letter to [email protected] no later than September 4th, telling us who you are and what your favorite movie is and, most importantly, why!

During Dutch Bio Science Week, Leiden International Film Festival | LIFF and Bioscopen Leiden | Trianon LIDO Kijkhuis are screening the biographical film THE DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY, with a special introduction by Wilco Peul, professor and chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at Leids Universitair Medisch Centrum | LUMC.
 
After Jean-Dominique Bauby suffers a stroke, he is able to move only his left eyelid. A therapist develops a method for him to communicate. She dictates a special alphabet that begins with the letters that appear most frequently in French. In this way, Bauby writes a book, letter by letter.

Tijdens de Dutch Bio Science Week vertonen Leiden International Film Festival | LIFF en Bioscopen Leiden | Trianon LIDO Kijkhuis de waargebeurde film THE DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY, met een inleiding door Wilco Peul, hoogleraar en afdelingshoofd Neurochirurgie bij het Leids Universitair Medisch Centrum | LUMC.

Nadat Jean-Dominique Bauby is getroffen door een beroerte, kan hij alleen zijn linkerooglid nog bewegen. Een therapeute ontwikkelt een methode om te communiceren. Zij dicteert een speciaal alfabet dat begint met de letters die het meest voorkomen in het Frans. Zo schrijft Bauby, letter voor letter, een boek.
