We have achieved a lot over the past few years, but some departments continue to do everything they can to avoid offering their staff a permanent contract. Therefore we call upon all of you to join our demonstration to end casualization at Leiden University!

Students and staff of End Fossil NL have occupied a building at UvA in Amsterdam to demand full transparency about and an end to the university's ties to fossil fuel, as well as more autonomy and democracy. They were forcibly removed by police last night and are still in detention.

Deze week verbood de universiteit een panel­discussie over Palestina omdat de gespreksleider ‘niet neutraal’ zou zijn. Het leidde tot een storm aan protest, een petitie en een demonstratie. Hoe kon dat gebeuren?

UPDATE
Tonight (18th March) the Dean of the faculty of Humanities- who had earlier today announced he was prepared to host the event and considered it in line with the house rules - was called into a meeting by the CvB and told to cancel the meeting if the chair was not changed. The reason given was once again baseless accusations directed at the event’s chair. This situation is serious. Not only is this
a continued attack on academic freedom and the right to discuss Palestine on campus, it is also a direct assault on the independence
of departments and institutes. The petition is therefore re-opened and alternative details for the event and a demonstration in solidarity with the organisers will be circulated asap.

Praesidium Libertatis? Palestinium Exceptionalis!

Over the past few weeks, Leiden University has blocked our students from booking a room for a panel discussion on the occasion of Israeli Apartheid Week, without giving any transparency on the criteria used to ban events from campus or how they were applied and by whom.

This is a grave concern for all staff and students at our institution.
