ReddLock is a young Dutch Indie (Serious) Game Studio, founded in 2016 by student entrepreneur Juliëtte van der Laarse, and recently made the switch from Client-side to In-house production. ReddLock specialises in the development of Augmented- and Virtual Reality software for (i.a.) educational, awareness or training purposes. ReddLock can be characterized as dynamic, innovative, enthusiastic, ambitious and idealistic. ReddLock puts quality over quantity and prides itself for its academic touch, transparency and social responsibility. The team consists of a large pool of students, a solid network of freelancers, (affiliated) professionals and collaborating partners.

ReddLock needs help from the non-binary community! We are a young Dutch Serious Gaming/AR/VR studio and we are reaching out to the community for help in designing a non-binary gendered character, for our latest educational product: ScienceTales: CERN.

Hi everyone! We’ve been quiet for quite some time now but that doesn’t mean we’ve been sitting still. ;) We have a bunch of new team members that we will introduce to you soon. And they’re working on an awesome project right now! It’s an educational AR package that takes elementary school kids on a fairytale-like interactive journey filled with abstract concepts such as atoms and even quantum physics, guided and inspired by the four main CERN experiments: ALICE, ATLAS, CMS and LHCb. One of our cooperating partners is CERN and we visited them in November! We met with many enthusiastic people who are happy to collaborate with us. It was a very productive and fun weekend and we plan to visit them again soon!! Een paar weken geleden werden wij benaderd door Cedric, Luke, Leon en Sven, 4e jaars Technacium studenten van het Kaj Munk College te Hoofddorp. En vandaag kwamen ze langs op ons kantoor voor een workshop 'Game Development in Unreal', gegeven door onze CEO Juliëtte. Hierna zullen ze deze nieuwe skills gebruiken om samen onderzoek te doen naar Virtual Reality en hun bevindingen in praktijk testen door zelf een game te maken.
Op deze manier doen ze ervaring op in het bedrijfsleven en de branche waarin het gekozen bedrijf actief is. Deze jongens hebben ReddLock gekozen omdat zij geïnteresseerd zijn in game-techniek.
Ze zijn echter niet zomaar bij ons terecht gekomen! Wij hebben al langer contact met het Kaj Munk College en het is de bedoeling dat wij vaker gaan samenwerken met het Technacium. Zo hopen wij jonge mensen ervaring bij te brengen en te inspireren wat betreft IT 😎

A few weeks ago we were contacted by Cedric, Luke, Leon and Sven, 4th year Technasium students from Kaj Munk College, Hoofddorp, and today they visited ReddLock HQ for a workshop 'Game Development in Unreal', taught by our CEO Juliette, after which they will use these newly gained skills to do research on Virtual Reality and test their theory by developing a game themselves.
This way they get acquainted with working for a business and the field in which the choosen client operates. These boys chose ReddLock as they are interested in game-technology.
But being approached by Technasium students was not a coincidence! We have been in touch with Kaj Munk College for quite some time now and we will work together with Technasium more often in the future. By doing so, we hope to give these young people some experience and to inspire them concerning IT 😎
Did you know that only 21% of all programmers in the Netherlands are female? That only 13 of the 500 biggest companies have a female CEO? That man do not receive parental leave at most companies? That people with autism or ADHD are often being regarded as 'too much work' and thus have difficulties in finding a job? That age discrimination in IT often already begins at 35? And that introverted individuals often do not get the same opportunities as the more extroverted ones?
We at ReddLock Studios have a mission. We aim to contribute something to our earth, and we do this through being responsible and sustainable.
To give just some examples, we work together with the Dutch Association of Autism NVA, have initiated the movement #PowertotheIntrovert, support movements such as #WomeninSTEM, collaborate with ROC Leiden, the Game Studies Network Leiden, and the technacium of the Kaj Munk College Hoofddorp, aim to plant a tree per printed paper with Trees For All, give 10% of our profit to charities, and will hold good-will missions supporting charities ranging from Educate Girls India, via Digital Education Network Africa, to SIRE the Netherlands.

There's a new toy in town = happy ReddLock team!
We are very active in improving education, in fact, in the following months we will be publishing a student portal on our website!
We will provide students with basic information on the VR-, AR- and game business, such as which programming languages are used, we will provide tutorials and great (tutorial) websites, such as that of Khan Academy that Juliëtte and Ketty used themselves to prepare for Advanced Math classes when they were still Game Development students, and we will also give advice on how to begin a career in the game industry!

Female game designers are often frowned upon when being too "girly" and we heard our fair share of stories about fashionable women not being taken serious as game designers or programmers. Being girly or fashionable says nothing about your programming/game dev skills!! Let's break the stereotype!! Game development and programming is a womens job as well!
