I am so happy to invite you all to the opening of my online solo show at Arts to hearts project. I have been selected from a large group of artists and next month my work can be seen online. It is a selection of work consisting of female figures. We will go online at 5pm mid-European summer time. Register for the opening via the arts to hearts website. Daar is het officieel in ontvangst genomen en opgehangen. Ook is er een foto gemaakt waar wij ( ik en de community ) allemaal opstaan. Die volgt nog binnrnkort. Verder nog foto's van de mijn expositie in de school.

Of course I decorated it to my own taste and made my inspiration wall. The first paper has already been found. I wonder what will come out of my hands

Ik heb een heerlijke kamer en een fijne werkplek met in de verte uitzicht op de bergrn . Natuurlijk heb ik die alweer naar eigen smaak ingericht en mijn inspiratiemuur gemaakt. Het eerste papier is alweer gevonden. Ik ben benieuwd wat er uit mijn handen komt .

Morning pages, evening moves, project 5
During my stay here I came across the book "The artist way" by Julia Cameron. As an audiobook I
heard her ideas about creativity. One of those ideas for not getting blocked is writing morning pages.
You get up in the morning and the first thing you do is write three pages full. It doesn't matter with
what. Among other things, it clears your head of the night. It is not the intention that you read those
pages afterwards, or that someone else reads them. You just throw them away. What you write is
completely pointless. I faithfully started doing that every day. nice and early outside at a table
overlooking the garden. Although it is not my intention to use those pages, I have done so here. But
here it's just scribbling and it's not about the content. I started to combine these pages with a series
of dried plants I found in the school. I found this educational material to fit well with the intuitive
nature of the morning pages. I used the evenings to add movement and color with watercolors. The
method was the same. Without purpose, completely intuitive, sometimes sitting half in the dark, I
just did what came into my mind. I ran my hand over the paper. It was doodle, scribbling and letting
colors flow and move. This is how this work came into being and for me the day was connected with
a morning ritual and an evening ritual

Making a woman
While exploring the school I came across a folder with black and white portraits of important people in the history of Bulgaria in socialism (I think). In any case, I noticed that there are many old portraits on the wall in the school but also in the community center that refer to the past and history. This is how history is kept alive. Now these are all men. I assume that the women also did important things in the past, but that is not visible on the walls. The sight of the folder with black and white photos of serious, sometimes stern-looking men that I personally don't know and of whom I don't know what important things they have done, made me think what it would be like if these were all women. What does this mean for the image? So I decided to turn those men into a woman. I used charcoal for this. It was not easy to soften and round the hard features and jawline. It was an interesting search for the right woman behind the man for me. It also felt a bit like I was doing platic surgery on the spot. I had a lot of fun crafting. Sometimes it is also good to reflect on how things could be different.
Een vrouw maken
Tijdens het verkennen van de school kwam ik een map tegen met zwart-witportretten van belangrijke mensen in de geschiedenis van Bulgarije. Nu zijn dit allemaal mannen. Ik neem aan dat de vrouwen in het verleden ook belangrijke dingen hebben gedaan, maar dat is niet zichtbaar aan de muren. De serieuze, soms streng kijkende mannen die ik persoonlijk niet ken en van wie ik niet weet welke belangrijke dingen ze hebben gedaan, deed me denken aan hoe het zou zijn als dit allemaal vrouwen zouden zijn. Wat betekent dit voor het beeld? Dus besloot ik van die mannen een vrouw te maken. Ik heb hiervoor houtskool gebruikt. Het was niet gemakkelijk om de harde trekken en kaaklijn te verzachten en rond te maken. Het was voor mij een interessante zoektocht naar de juiste vrouw acher de man.Het voelde ook een beetje alsof ik ter plekke een platic-operatie deed. Ik heb veel plezier gehad. Soms is het ook goed om stil te staan bij hoe het anders zou kunnen.
In the past two weeks I have worked so hard that I have completed five projects. One of these is the Voda (water) project. In total I made eighteen water bottles from paper. Water bottles that were an important daily attribute because of the heat and the quality of the water here. They are made by hand and give the atmosphere that I think fits the bottles. They can be seen this afternoon at the end of my work period...
Afgelopen twee weken heb ik zo hard gewerkt dat ik vijf projecten heb afgerond. Een daarvan is het project Voda ( water). In totaal heb ik achttien waterflesjes gemaakt van papier. Waterflessen die door de warmte en de kwaliteit hier van het water een belangrijke dagelijks attribuut waren. Ze zijn uit de losse hand gemaakt en geven de sfeer die ik vind passen bij de flesjes. Vanmiddag zijn ze te zien bij de afsluiting van mijn werkperiode.

Astrid Vlasman - closing show – this Friday, 29th of July at 6 pm
We are delighted to announce the closing exhibition of The Old school art residency - July 2022 that will take place this Friday, 29th of July in the community center. In the show, you will see the artworks of our participating artist this month Astrid Vlasman, a painter from Holland.
The first part of the exhibition will take place in the building of the community center “Zora 1887” in the village. There, Astrid will present the painting she made of the community center and give it to librarian Nadia to be hung in the community center building.
Here is the artist's concept for creating this piece:
“During my introduction to the village, I also ended up in the community center. I was surprised at the multifunctionality of the building. There is everything a community can bring together; a meeting place, a library, theater and museum. Great to come across that in a village and that it is being put to such good use. It's great that even the children can get their books here in the long summer. In order to make my connection with the people in the village, I started to copy it from paper with the intention of having it hung here, in the community center. That in this way I also added something to the community here, shows my connection and that my arrival has not been invisible. I hope that the work can hang here for years to come and that the villagers realize how important such a building is. During the event, I bring my community building to the actual community building and officially hand it to librarian Nadia.”
In the second part of the event, we will move into the school building, into Astrid's studio, where we will see the rest of the artwork she has created over the past two weeks: Missing children, Voda, Making a woman and Morning pages, evening moves.
We will end the exhibition with a glass of wine and a conversation with Astrid.

De eerste werkjes die ik hier heb gemaakt zijn geïnspireerd op communistisch educatiemateriaal wat ik hier in de school gevonden heb. Het gaat over brandpreventie. Het zijn de typische gedrukte figuurtjes die uit Oost Europa komen. Ik heb twee figuren gemaakt van papier maar in plaats van te scheuren heb ik alles geknipt om zo dichterbij de oorspronkelijke techniek te komen. Ook heb ik handgeschreven papier hier uit de school gebruikt Zo komt alles weer samen en is het fijn dat er nu toch weer kinderen in de school zijn!
Today on an excursion through the village. First visited the Community Center, which contains a room full of chess men, a library, a theater room, an art store, a museum about the village and a room of a famous writer. It shows the community spirit of the village of Gorna Lipnitsa. Afterwards we visited the Agricultural museum and the church. The village really comes alive..
Vandaag op excursie door het dorp. Als eerste het Community center bezocht met daarin een ruimte vol schakende mannen, een bibliotheek, een theaterzaal, een kunstopslag, een museum over het dorp en een ruimte van een beroemde schrijver. Het laat de gemeenschapszin van het dorp Gorna Lipnitsa zirn. Daarna nog het Agricultural museum en de kerk bezocht. De dorp gaat zo helemaal leven..
De komende twee weken verblijf ik hier. Ik heb dit huis helemaal voor mij alleen. Er zit ook een werkruimte in maar de echte werkruimte in de oude school in het dorp krijg ik morgen te zien. Dit huis heeft een geweldig uitzicht. Vanavond had ik mijn welkomstdiner in de achtertuin van organisatoren van de old school art residency hier in het dorp Gorna Lipnitsa. Het eten was heelijk en het gezelschap gezellig. Wat een verwennerij. Genieten!

Vandaag op jacht geweest naar materiaal waarmee ik de komende weken kan werken. De beste plek om mijn kunstmateriaal te krijgen was de blauwe papiercontainers die in de stad staan. Ik had geluk. Een grote stapel posters voor reclameborden vond ik daarin. Ik heb ze bij thuiskomst gelijk ontdaan van de rechte zijkant. De eerste voorbereiding om er verder mee aan de slag te gaan. Crafting at school today. I have put together a chair in a very short time. The children can take longer. No rush in art class! They have to find residual material to make a chair.
