Writer's Block Murals x A Guide to Leeuwarden is terug voor een avond vol street art tours. Op zaterdag 26 september nemen we je mee de nacht in 🦉

Samen gaan we op avontuur door de straten van Leeuwarden: ontdek gloednieuwe street art, de publieksfavorieten en souvenirs van The Wall Is Yours. Laat je onderweg verrassen door wat je nog meer tegenkomt...👀

CÉZ ART - Life is Beautiful

Level up! We’re traveling from an aquatic atmosphere to life on land, entering a new realm. This is the second mural made by CÉZ ART for Firda. ❤️‍🔥

Cez Art: “The project is based on a poetic vision of our environment, where life forms, nature, and humanity are interconnected in a continuous flow. As one ascends the stairs, our eyes traverse different universes that evoke various natural environments and our place within this whole. The staircase then becomes more than just a
passageway: it transforms into a symbolic path, an elevation through the
dimensions of the world and of life. The staircase becomes a microcosm where life flourishes.”

Level up! We reizen van de waterwereld naar het leven op het land. Dit is de tweede mural van CÉZ ART in het trappenhuis van Firda ❤️‍🔥

Cez Art: “Het project is een poëtische visie op onze omgeving, waar levensvormen, natuur en mensheid continu met elkaar verbonden zijn. Terwijl je de trap beklimt, doorkruisen je ogen verschillende universums. De trap wordt dan meer dan alleen een doorgang: hij transformeert in een symbolisch pad. De trap wordt een microkosmos waar het leven bloeit.”

CÉZ ART - Life is Beautiful
Level 1 🌊

Good things come to those who wait... And this one is incredible! After the summer break, we surprised the students of Firda with the incredible murals by CÉZ ART, and now we can finally share these with the world. Such an incredible project, transforming a big school staircase in about two weeks! 🤩

The mural project aims to transform the staircase into a visual experience that accompanies the visitors' ascent. 🌍

Cez Art: "The entire journey is organized around a simple idea: to represent the different levels of life and the world, from the origin and creative forces of nature, to the soaring towards the sky and the realm of imagination."

NL: Het wachten waard! 🫧 Na de zomervakantie verrasten we in samenwerking met .roc de leerlingen met deze droomachtige murals van CÉZ ART. ❤️‍🔥 Wát een project, in zo'n twee weken transformeerde de Franse street artist het trappenhuis in een visuele reis; van het leven in de zee tot hoog in de wolken!

Cez: "De hele reis is opgebouwd rond één simpel idee: het weergeven van de verschillende lagen van het leven en de wereld, van de oorsprong en krachten van de natuur, tot het opstijgen richting de hemel en het rijk van de verbeelding."

RIP WALL 🥀❤️

After 8 years, we're saying goodbye to two of our very beloved murals. This one is a bit special: both artworks were made in our very first year, by artists who were on our wishlist (absolute legends!).

Streets change and transform, that's part of what we do. But, that doesn't mean we can't mourn it a little. 😪

Time for a proper ode to the artworks! First of all 👇

🐦‍⬛ This artwork was created by Japanese artist TWOONE. He drew his inspiration from the city itself: herring gulls in the streets, a bouquet of wildflowers, the name of the pub where he ended up one night, and the ceramic tiles at Museum Princessehof. Working with a water-pressure sprayer and a roller on an extension pole, he brought his own unique style to the city! TWOONE Hiroyasu Tsuri

The artwork is inspired by the 80's and 90's and references the animated serie Jem and The Holograms 🌟

Hoe werkt het?

* De items zijn te koop op zaterdag 4 juli tussen 20.00-22.00 uur tijdens onze techno & house avond met Deeptrax (gratis toegankelijk t/m 25 jaar of met je museumticket, anders €5 via friesmuseum.nl/tickets).
* Op de meubels kun je bieden vanaf €20; op de kunstwerken van Miniature People kun je bieden vanaf €75.
* Degene met het hoogste bod krijgt op zondag bericht. De meubels en kunstwerken kunnen na 12 juli opgehaald worden.

The heat is on! 🔥
Fat Heat created this boozy artwork on the shutter of Jelle's Liquor Store .

We couldn’t get enough of his art, so we worked something out to keep a piece in the city once the takeover in the comes to an end. The artwork features an (obvious) nod to the store combined with his signature vivid color palette. Cheers mate! Thank you for everything. ❤️‍🔥

PS. You can still catch Fat Heat’s mural in the Fries Museum, ánd while you’re out there, keep an eye out for his exclusive art prints in the museum shop. 👀

NL: De heat is on! 🔥 Fat Heat creëerde dit kunstwerk op het rolluik van Drankenspeciaalzaak Jelle in Leeuwarden.

We konden geen genoeg krijgen van zijn kunst, dus samen met regelden we dat er iets achterblijft in de stad als de takeover in het erop zit. Het kunstwerk bevat een (dikke vette) knipoog naar de winkel, gecombineerd met zijn kenmerkende levendige kleurenpalet. Proost! Bedankt voor alles ❤️

PS. Je kunt Fat Heat's mural nog steeds bewonderen in het Fries Museum, én check dan meteen ook zijn exclusieve kunstprints in de museumwinkel. 👀

Something (slightly more) permanent for Leeuwarden! 🩵 With .xlf visiting for The Wall is Yours at , we couldn't let the opportunity pass without having them leave something extra behind in the city. Thank you DEIH, we’re obsessed with this sci-fi piece! Walking the stairs has never been so fun. 🛸

NL: We want more! Iets in het museum, iets in de stad. 💥 Met de Spaanse street artist .xlf als gast bij de takeover The Wall is Yours in het , konden we de kans niet voorbij laten gaan zonder hem ook iets in de stad te laten maken. Thanks DEIH, dit kunstwerk is buitenaards mooi! 👽🛸

💥 - Political Parts
💥Theme: Let’s blow it up!

David Puck: “The mural is a representation of how I feel about the current political climate. The large face and red colour scheme signify my overarching sense of anger and overwhelm. The drawings represent my Parts (see Internal Family Systems / IFS for a complete definition of 'Parts' in this context). They are what I feel/think/experience around this topic.

IFS has been my core anchor and way of processing and understanding myself and the world for many years, and I am now also an IFS practitioner. I can't understate how impactful it has been in my life, and it keeps deepening.

By creating this piece, I invite viewers to explore their own parts, particularly around politics. By understanding ourselves, we can more likely understand each other and find ways to navigate differences, conflict, and suffering.”

David Puck: “'Political Parts' is een weergave van hoe ik me voel over het huidige politieke klimaat. Het gezicht en het rode kleurenschema symboliseren mijn gevoel van woede en overweldiging. De tekeningen in het gezicht vertegenwoordigen mijn “Delen” (context: een term uit de therapievorm IFS - Internal Family Systems). Ze geven weer wat ik ervaar rondom dit onderwerp.

IFS is al jaren mijn belangrijkste houvast en manier om mezelf en de wereld te verwerken en te begrijpen, en ik ben nu ook IFS-practitioner.

Met dit werk nodig ik kijkers uit om hun eigen “delen” te verkennen, met name rondom politiek. Door onszelf te begrijpen, kunnen we elkaar beter begrijpen en manieren vinden om met verschillen, conflicten en lijden om te gaan.”

The Wall is Yours - finished murals
💥Let’s start at the beginning

The takeover is open to the public for a little over two weeks. A lot is happening, but first, let’s go back to the start! 🛹

The first theme of the takeover was ‘let’s start at the beginning’, an ode to old school graffiti and the legends that started it all, up here in the north. 🔥

Graff kings DNS (Daddies Nasty Sons) invited a bunch of writers who were active in that time period - some of them still spraying, others back for the first time in a long while. They transformed the biggest hall in the into one big graffiti (master)piece. 👑

NL: Het eerste thema van de takeover was 'let's start at the beginning' - een ode aan old school graffiti en de legends van het hoge noorden. Graff kings DNS (Daddies Nasty Sons) nodigden verschillende writers uit die actief waren in die periode - sommigen nog steeds aan het werk in de scene, anderen voor het eerst in lange tijd weer met een bus in de hand. 🌟👑

Samen maakten ze de grootste zaal van het tot één groot graffiti (master)piece. Check it out!
