Finished up this handpainted suncatcher today 🌝🌿
Pleased with how it turned out- the 4mm lead really tested my patience (I never learn)!

Been noticing quite a few new faces on here, so I figured it’s time again for a proper introduction!

I’m Ellen- a stained glass artist from the Netherlands. I’ve been working in this craft for about 10 years now, ever since I unexpectedly fell head over heels in love with it at 19. Over the years I’ve been lucky enough to create meaningful commissioned pieces and have said yes to all kinds of opportunities, which has led me to meet some truly wonderful people. Shout out to the glass community 💓

These days, I’m also a mom trying to navigate the balance between work and family life. It’s a bit of a (mental) puzzle at times, but I’m happy to be finding my way back into the flow! That said, commissions are open again, so if you’re interested in a personalized piece feel free to reach out.

Alongside working on commissions and creating my own work, I also teach stained glass and glass painting classes. Andddd, starting this September, I’ll be running an intensive one-year glass painting programme at in Zwolle (NL). We’ll spend every Thursday really diving deep into the craft, with lots of exercises and assignments (registration is still open!). To say I’m excited about it would be an understatement 💫🌝

Anyway, that’s me in a nutshell. Thanks for following along!

Yes!

While holidaying in Sweden last summer, I stumbled upon this lovely stained glass knight at a loppis (a sort of in-house thrift shop), tucked away in a dusty corner 🏰✨ It’s in rough shape but I’m so charmed by the painted details. A Google deepdive taught me that it was made by Anders Nilsson, a Swedish glass artisan, somewhere around 1900. Couldn’t find out who or what this particular window was originally made for though. I do have a feeling the border isn’t original and was added later- other glaziers out there, what do you think?
Anyway, this piece could use some serious TLC and will make for a fun side project. 💗 👑

As someone who grew up surrounded by animals, I’ll always enjoy being asked to paint them. I thought I’d share a small selection of work I’ve made over the years- both commissioned pieces as well as personal stuff.

The photos aren’t in chronological order but even without a timeline, I can tell which pieces are older and which are newer based on how pleased I am with them. Looking back, there are so many things I’d approach very differently now! It’s funny how time and a little practice can really change your perspective.

Throwing it back to a sweet little commissioned gift from 2023. Babies are one of the trickier subjects to paint imo, there’s a softness that’s quite hard to capture!
As per usual, I used mouthblown glass from to paint on as it’s just my forever favorite. I always love how the texture subtly peeks through, like the air bubbles around the nose and cheeks in this particular case. It just adds that little bit of extra character.

Hello! 🙋🏻‍♀️ Resurfacing on here with a stained glass related post after (what feels like) a very very long time.

Baby Floris is already over 3 months old now, busy babbling and laughing away, and I’m currently in my last “real” week of parental leave (where did the time go?!). In the meantime I’ve quietly started picking up little projects here and there again.

For starters, I’m really excited to get back into teaching glass painting again, which I’ll be doing at in April & May ✨ the April class has already sold out, but I believe there are still a few spots left for the one in May.
Also, next week I’ll be teaching a lovely group of enthusiasts how to make their own stained glass panel. I’m sure I’ll be uploading more class dates over the upcoming months, so watch this space if you’re interested!

I’m also slowly starting up commission work again (have something in mind? Let me know 🌝), and of course the itch to create personal work has returned too. It only seemed fitting to start with a portrait of our little guy. Far from finished, but we’re getting there 🏃🏻‍♀️ I’ll talk more about the process & progress in another post soon.

Anyway, really looking forward to start sharing more glass stuff on here again! X
