Here’s the latest completed and installed puzzle: it’s a 3x4 RFID puzzle, connected to a TV screen. Every piece represents a part of an image and when the piece is placed, the players will see that part of the image on the TV, positioned where they placed it.
Once the image is correctly put together, the TV will show a hint for the next puzzle. It will also open a cabinet door.
The 12 tiles are 3D printed in up to 8 colors.

Yesterday two more puzzles were installed. One simply requires the players to place a rather large cup onto a side table. When the cup is picked up, it will illuminate with blue leds. After is placed in the correct spot, the light ‘transfers’ to the cabinet next to it, so the players can see what’s inside there.

The second one is a puzzle where 7 items need to be placed in their correct spots. Each item generates a unique sound. When all 7 items are placed, a door will swing open. This also triggers the room’s control software to play the end video, as this is the last puzzle the players have to solve.
In this case I had to manufacture the 7 items as well so I had some fun with both of my 3D printers.

Now working on the last puzzle for this room.

A lot has happened since the last time I posted on this page. The puzzle with the lit letters has been installed. All 27 of them light up yellow when the puzzle is started. Players can use a magic wand to create a spell in order to open the door to the next area. The letters turn green when touched and there are sound effects as well. Each letter has its own tiny chip so I can have as many of them connected to the main puzzle as required.

The picture doesn’t show the letters too well since the working lights were on at the time. The effect is much better when the lights are dim.

So I made this Time Machine for an escape room reception area. When the lever on the left is thrown it turns on the machine. All buttons light up, the light bulb goes on, the tubes on top start to glow and it activates a ‘potential’ meter. On the television there is a video of the machine starting up.

There is a button for each of the escape rooms. Each button starts a video introducing the objective of the room. Once the video ends it triggers a smoke machine behind the door and then it opens the door to the corridor which leads to the actual escape rooms.

I’m quite pleased how it turned out.

Working on some new puzzles. This new escape room is going to be exciting, entertaining and very well themed.

I had to learn some new tricks for these. More to come.

An escape room owner had difficulties to get a RFID puzzle to operate reliably with 8 readers, and decided to ask for my help. He uses the PN532 cardreaders which can read standard tags over reasonable distances.
I made some new PCB boards for this type of readers and adjusted the software for my RFID multiplexers board … and it works perfectly! Another happy customer.

Delivered another 2 puzzles today. The first is an RFID puzzle in the clients’ company colors. There are 7 hexagon tokens with 3D printed symbols on them. Four need to be placed in the correct slots and the bottom will drop. Each slot has an addressable LED to indicate the placement of a token. If 4 tokens are placed, but incorrect, they all turn red. When solved they all turn green until the puzzle is reset.

The second ’puzzle’ is a simple gate which triggers a siren and flashing light when someone walks through. There is a remote control to turn the alarm on and off by the operator.

Installed another puzzle today. It plays a sound if any of the two swords is inserted and when the second sword slides in it opens the door and plays a song.

I realized I haven’t posted any updates recently. A lot of work was done on this huge project and finally things are getting close to completion.

The main components are all done. The LED panels are controlled by a Raspberry Pi, for which I had to change a library for both the specific panels I use and their configuration.

The 7-segment displays have a separate controller. There is a third controller for the rest of the logic, which I will reveal later.

I even have 15.000 coins made with the EscapAid logo.

Now I just have to put them all together and repeat 7 times.

De PCB's voor de 7-segment displays zijn eindelijk binnen gekomen ... en ze doen precies wat ze moeten doen. Weer een stap verder met het mega project 2022.
