I went outside carrying anger I couldn't think my way out of.
Watercolour felt too gentle. I needed acrylic, I needed my hands. I needed to scratch, smear, splatter and push something physical into the canvas.

I wasn't trying to paint a skull. Somewhere in the process, it simply appeared - and I followed it.

This became a painting about death, but not physical death. The death of cycles. Mental loops. Old attachments. The power we continue to give people long after we're desperate to be free from them.

Sometimes creation isn't beautiful or peaceful. Sometimes it's messt, furious and visceral. Sometimes we make something because there's something inside us that needs somewhere to go.

And sometimes an ending isn't tragedy. It's liberation.
