JULIÁN ESCOBAR QUARTET

CONCERT STARTS AT 10PM

Sorry for the break in poster style, but we’re on holiday! You’ll get a great group this month nevertheless! Enjoy the start of autumn!
———

Jack and Julián have been playing together since our conservatory years, they graduated at the same time. Over the years, they developed a shared musical language through playing and exploring different repertoires.

They initially played music by musicians such as Keith Jarrett and John Taylor, and after graduating expanded their musical exploration toward other areas of jazz, including the music of Allan Holdsworth and Pedro Martins. This journey gradually inspired them to start writing their own music and develop a project together.

The repertoire for this performance brings together some of the music they have written and developed since then, alongside a couple of older pieces. The compositions blend elements of jazz, pop, and fusion, shaped by their shared musical language and approach to improvisation.
BAND
Jack Huddlestone: piano synth

ANNA SOLLEWIJN & CHRIS MULLER QUARTET

CONCERT STARTS AT 10PM

This will be a good one, folks! A spectacular joining of forces: the fantastic singer Anna Sollewijn who has featured in our cellar a few times, together with the Chris Muller Quartet (Chris, who is the youngest big band leader in the country), are presenting their upcoming album, and it's going to be a banger! Don't miss this exclusive pre-release preview!

--------

The Anna Sollewijn / Chris Muller Quartet brings together two leading young voices from the Dutch jazz scene: vocalist Anna Sollewijn (24) and pianist Chris Muller (26). Their shared passion for jazz and soul created a special musical bond, and they offer a fresh take on the Great American Songbook. Through virtuosic improvisation, rich harmonies, and influences from classical and soul, they bring tradition alive in a contemporary voice.

After their successful solo projects: Anna’s debut EP (Spotify) and Chris’s big band album Turning Thoughts), they decided to join forces in this quartet, together with top talents Cas Jiskoot (bass) and Tim Hennekes (drums).
The idea for this project emerged during a shared period in New York, where Anna and Chris immersed themselves in the jazz scene of the city that gave birth to the American Songbook. There, they discovered how timeless and relevant this repertoire still is, and felt the urge to return to the roots of jazz.

MARTÍ MITJAVILA

CONCERT STARTS AT 10PM

In May, we'll have some familiar faces down underground. Martí Mitjavila brings a killer rhythm section to play his favourite standards. He's one of the most virtuous players we know, so be sure to come and check him out!

--------

Martí Mitjavila is an Amsterdam based bass clarinetist who grew up near Barcelona.
Known for his lyrical playing and warm sound, he has crafted a style rooted in the traditions of swing music and hardbop. Martí's goal is to shine light on an underrepresented instrument in jazz, the bass clarinet, and to claim its validity as a vehicle of expression.

On this occasion, Martí's quartet will play selections from the Great American Songbook (Gershwin, Cole Porter) and compositions from the hard bop era.
The band will feature some of the best jazz musicians from the Amsterdam scene, such as guitar wizard Linus Eppinger, double bass sorcerer Ties Laarakker, and drum druid Tijn Koenen.

Martí's achievements include winning the Best Soloist Award at the Keep an Eye International Jazz Award in 2022, the Grachtenfestival Jazz Competition in 2022, and the Prinses Christina Jazz Concours in 2019 with his trio. He has performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival, the Grachtenfestival in Amsterdam and the Bimhuis Rough Diamonds Series, among others.

FREDDIE & FRIENDS

CONCERT STARTS AT 10PM

Another month of jazz, and we got some fresh faces in our cellar. Up and coming pianist Freddie Fleischman brings a load of friends, which is going to be great. He also recently started his agency for managing jazz artists, so you'll hear more from him in the future to be sure! See you there!

--------

This project is all about feel, groove, and soul. Freddie & Friends is a collaboration between three Amsterdam-based students who all agree on one thing above all: music has to feel right. Their sound is warm, energetic, and rhythmically strong, with influences from gospel, jazz, funk, R&B, and soul. It is all about connecting with the audience, creating a live experience that invites, moves, and flows with the moment. Enjoy!
