Christone "Kingfish" Ingram delivered like there was no tomorrow! Blues, G-Funk, 90's R&B (sometimes with a hint of legends like Nate Dogg and D'Angelo, but always his own), gospel, rock and more, peppered with all kinds of soul. Kingfish and his fantastic crew lit up the room and the place needed renovation when they were done! This is a snippet of 'Bad Like Me' off of the Hard Road album released in 2025. Go see them when you get a chance!

Ian Siegal delivered a stellar performance at Haarlem Blues Club, right before covid hit. This is but a snippet from the whole interview by DeBluesRadio you can find on YouTube.

The phenomenal songwriter and storyteller resides in Malta these days, being the ol' pirate he is, but he'll be back in the Netherlands in October, November and December.

Not only will he entertain audiences with his charismatic solo shows, he'll also make guest appearances in the "50 Years The Last Waltz" Tour in theaters all across the country, alongside his good friends (including on December 18th!). Last but not least, Siegal was invited by renowned songwriter, performer and Americana affocionado to guest at his show on October 31st.

Make sure to go see him when he's passing through your area!

Happy birthday to the late, great Joe Willie “Pinetop” Perkins, born July 7, 1913, in Belzoni, Mississippi. Starting out as a guitarist, he switched to the 88 after injuring the tendons in his left arm during a knife fight with a showgirl in Helena, Arkansas, sometime in the 1940s.

After playing with , he replaced in the Muddy's band in 1969 and held that seat for about a decade. He even appears in 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘭𝘶𝘦𝘴 𝘉𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴 (1980), outside Aretha's Soul Food Cafe on Maxwell Street.

Despite favoring a McDonald's Big Mac and apple pie over any other meal, Pinetop appeared to be as strong as a bull. When a severe car accident totaled his vehicle, he got away without a scratch at 91 years old. He lived to the impressive age of 97. He received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame. Happy Pinetop Day!

Happy belated heavenly birthday to Willie Dixon, born on July 1st 1915 in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Dixon was an immensely important and dominant figure in Chicago throughout all of the 1950s and the first half of the 1960s, defining the genre of Chicago blues.

He was a hit writing machine for Chess Records in Chicago, writing for all the greats such as , , , and many, many others.
Sadly, he wasn’t compensated in royalties accordingly. In the late 1970s, Dixon and Muddy Waters successfully sued Chess’s publishing company ARC, which enabled them to establish their own publishing entities.

As far as we know, Dixon also took care of a lot of business and paperwork for many artists, enabling them to travel and work overseas. Being a talent scout also, he was largely responsible for the line ups on the American Folk Blues Festival tours in Europe throughout the 1960s and 1970s, inspiring the British Blues Boom!

Dixon was a key link between blues and rock and roll, and you’ll come across his name on the back of countless albums produced during the impressive timespan of over half a century. He’s inducted in several different ‘Hall of Fames’ and won numerous critically acclaimed prizes, one of them being a Grammy for his 1958 album ‘Hidden Charms’.

Happy heavenly birthday to one of the hardest guys to ever play the harmonica: James Cotton, born July 1st 1935. Besides having a fantastic career of himself and producing incredibly powerful music that’s considered to be part of the bible, he played for for 12 years, starting in 1954 following after . Cotton started developing his mighty sound at a young age, listening to Alec ‘Rice’ Miller, better known as Sonny Boy Williamson II. Mostly known for his fierce attack on the instrument, he made every recording he played on a richer one and he continues to influence all of the blues players on the scene to this day. We really love his stuff on the Vanguard label on Chicago / The Blues / Today. Happy James Cotton day!

Happy heavenly birthday to David ‘Honeyboy’ Edwards, born June 28 1915, in Shaw, Mississippi. He lived to be an impressive 96 years old! He goes so far back he’s even performed with the legendary and, according to what we’ve read, was there that very night Johnson was poisoned.

We’re still learning about Honeyboy’s life and music. He seemed to have lived a lot of his life as a traveling musician. On foot, freight trains, trucks, hitchhiking, whatever it took to get to the next adventure and make a living.

This footage is from a Dutch documentary called ‘SMART’, made by Joost Kraanen and produced by Harry de Winter, which we recommend you check out on YouTube for free! It shows a part of Honeyboy’s life traveling north with a truck load full of catfish that were going to be sold at the Delta Fish Market in Chicago. It shows a cultural and historic view from the West Side of Chicago in the mid 1980’s.

Happy heavenly birthday to Big Bill Broonzy, born on this day in 1893. His artistry was highly influential to many we now know as the black American roots music. His writing was second to none and the melodies like the one in this video stuck in your head real easily. This video was shot by Pete Seeger on July 6th, 1957, at Circle Pines Center in Cloverdale, Michigan.

If you love this music, we recommend checking out Jontavious Willis, who we, in a manner of speaking, consider to be the Big Bill Broonzy of our time!
