In the past three months our gallery has sold ten works by Carel de Nerée tot Babberich, including this exceptional modern male n**e.
Carel de Nerée tot Babberich is one of the most intriguing Dutch Symbolist artists of his time. Literary, socially active and visually distinctive, he developed a refined graphic language clearly related to Aubrey Beardsley, elegant in line and charged with subtle decadence.
His work is defined by refinement, mystery and psychological depth. These qualities were not fully understood during his lifetime, but are now recognized as the mark of an exceptional talent whose career ended far too early.
This drawing holds a special place within his oeuvre. It is regarded as the only known male n**e he created and offers a rare and intimate perspective on his artistic range.
