We are delighted to announce that Bob Scholte Fine Art will make its debut at PAN Amsterdam

Join us at the RAI Amsterdam from October 31 to November 8, where we will present a selection of Dutch and European paintings and drawings from around 1900.

Over the past months, we have been working behind the scenes to acquire exciting new works, many of which will be unveiled to the public for the first time at PAN Amsterdam.

Participating in PAN marks an important milestone for our art dealership, and we are proud to share this moment with collectors, colleagues, and art enthusiasts.

We look forward to welcoming you to our stand.

A sweeping view across a river landscape with golden hayfields in the foreground, a dark band of trees, and beyond them the quiet rhythm of red roofs and a windmill beneath the sky. In De Lek bij Amerongen, Martin Monnickendam captures the Dutch countryside with a remarkable sense of atmosphere. The elevated viewpoint enhances the panoramic effect and gently guides the eye from the textured fields to the distant horizon.

Something quite different from the usual.

In light of International Women’s Day, we are presenting a striking work by Marlene Dumas; one of the most influential painters of our time.

Bad Genes (1990) confronts the viewer with an unsettling, almost psychological intensity. The dark, compressed figure and piercing gaze evoke themes of vulnerability, identity, and the inherited weight of the human condition; subjects that run throughout Dumas’ oeuvre.

🦇 Formerly in the collection of Barry Humphries (known for his role as Dame Edna), a devoted De Nerée collector: Faun (1904)

Executed in black ink, India ink and silver paint on wove paper, Faun reveals De Nerée’s unmistakable visual language: elongated figures, decorative rhythms, and his characteristic female archetypes drifting through a dreamlike world.

The faun appears as an androgynous figure, suspended between male and female, unfolding theatrically before a procession of sensual, otherworldly forms. Along the upper edge, erotic ornamentation creates a frieze-like rhythm, heightening the work’s decadent atmosphere and graphic intensity.

Sold to a happy buyer in The Netherlands.

A refined pencil drawing by Carel de Nerée tot Babberich (1880–1909): Lady with Closed Eyes (1899–1901). In this symbolist, neo-mystical drawing we encounter his typical female figure, rendered with a minimal economy of lines and closed eyes. Inspired by artists such as Aubrey Beardsley and Jan Toorop, De Nerée developed a highly personal visual language.

Known for his complicated relationship with women, De Nerée was deeply drawn to fragile female figures, which recur throughout his oeuvre as recurring motifs, expressing vulnerability and inner contemplation.

All works by Carel de Nerée can now be found on our website, link in bio.

In the past three months our gallery has sold ten works by Carel de Nerée tot Babberich, including this exceptional modern male n**e.

Carel de Nerée tot Babberich is one of the most intriguing Dutch Symbolist artists of his time. Literary, socially active and visually distinctive, he developed a refined graphic language clearly related to Aubrey Beardsley, elegant in line and charged with subtle decadence.

His work is defined by refinement, mystery and psychological depth. These qualities were not fully understood during his lifetime, but are now recognized as the mark of an exceptional talent whose career ended far too early.

This drawing holds a special place within his oeuvre. It is regarded as the only known male n**e he created and offers a rare and intimate perspective on his artistic range.

Illustrated in Sander Bink, Carel de Nerée tot Babberich, Verfijnde Lijnen, Wbooks 2025, cat.nr. 153.
