With APPROP., ax710 and Jurjen Galema explore appropriation as a way of taking existing images, forms, objects and ideas, and giving them new meaning in another context.

Building on ax710’s long-term research into appropriation, the exhibition brings together different layers of time, cultural references and perspectives.

Questions around ownership, identity, gender, culture and representation meet in a layered presentation and setting.

The collaboration continues the artists’ work together for Pride Groningen, including Jurjen’s Gondola of Wrath and their joint performance.

The dot in APPROP. marks both an interruption and an opening: a point where meaning can shift, change and continue.

NP3 | MOBi | Marit Westerhuis | Capsule-series

Alongside Touch Some Grass, Marit has added her Capsule Series to the presentation at
NP3 | MOBi. Six different interpretations of a world in the post-Anthropocene: a future in which humans are no longer automatically at the centre of the world. Sealed inside hermetically closed containers, compelling artificial landscapes emerge as miniature ecosystems and alternative realities.

The capsules resemble isolated worlds in which nature, materials and time have begun to follow their own course. What exactly is happening within these worlds remains partly hidden. Marit invites us to see the landscapes not only as visions of the future, but also as possible scenarios: what remains, what changes, and what new forms of life and environments might emerge as human influence shifts?

Together, the six capsules form a series of different visions of the future, raising questions about our relationship with nature, technology and the world around us.

Wat is werken nog waard?
Werk moet lonen, zo is ons geleerd. Maar voor steeds meer mensen loont werken nauwelijks: een gemiddelde schoonmaker, pakketbezorger, metaalbewerker of bouwvakker houdt onder de streep maar weinig over.

Daartegenover staat een groep die er juist steeds meer op vooruitgaat: van high frequency traders tot private equity partners. Zij ontvangen niet alleen een riant salaris en passief inkomen, ze zijn ook in staat om hun belasting op vermogen te minimaliseren dankzij legale maar controversiële belastingconstructies.

Memoria de su movimiento / Remembrance of Their Movement
Daniela Romero Garduño ‘ROGA’ and Alan Ahued Naime at NP3 | MOBi - Suikerbrij

Memoria de su movimiento is a multidisciplinary work combining text and music. The work develops through a cyclical process: the text becomes the starting point for the music, which in turn inspires a new version of the text. The resulting zine explores the ways memories are
triggered, stored and transformed over time.

The musical part of the work takes the form of a one-hour-long cassette containing an experimental composition that navigates through different layers of our memories. From noise to ambient, the music was composed and performed by the artists using synthesisers, loops, voice and recordings from other cassette tapes.

For the Suikerbrij, Daniela and Alan present their zine-cassette Memoria de su movimiento (Remembrance of Their Movement) with a listening session.
The zine will be available for visitors to read throughout the listening session. Visitors are invited to come and go freely, sit or lie down, and enjoy the music.

ZOLT at NP3 | MOBi - Suikerbrij

ZOLT
— Debora Westra & Susanne Luurs — explore folk stories, regional histories and the cultural landscape of the Wadden Sea region. Through performance, sculpture, installation and storytelling, they revisit old stories and give them new meaning.
On Saturday 12th September, during Suikerbrij, ZOLT starts a work and research period at NP3 | MOBi with a performance. From there, they will explore stories, materials and places, focusing on heritage, landscape, gender and identity.
ZOLT is the winner of the Noordenaars Stipendium 2025 and concludes the Artist in Space development programme with this work period and presentation at NP3 | MOBi.

APPROP.

A concept by ax710, in collaboration with Jurjen Galema.

APPROP. is a shortened, autonomous title derived from appropriation, freeing the term from its traditional art-historical definition.
Through its abbreviation, the word itself becomes a fragment: active, unfinished, and in motion.
It refers not only to the appropriation of existing material, but also to processes of selection, displacement,
and reinterpretation through which meanings are continuously transformed.

In an open and dynamic collaboration, ax710 and Jurjen Galema reinterpret iconic images from an earlier era.
Through both critical inquiry and artistic intervention, they shift established meanings and place them within a contemporary context.
The exhibition demonstrates how images are never fixed or definitive, but can continually be reread, questioned, and re-experienced.

APPROP. explores the space between the familiar and the unfamiliar, between what we recognize and what we learn to see anew.
Within this movement, attention is given to the multitude of stories, experiences, and perspectives that shape our society.
The exhibition invites an open gaze, where differences are not positioned in opposition to one another, but can contribute to
understanding, connection, and mutual respect.

The period (dot) at the end of APPROP. functions both as an interruption and as an opening: the concept is not brought to a close,
but rather continued through an ongoing process of critical inquiry, reflection, and change.

NP3 x Pride Walk
Gondola of Wrath by Jurjen Galema
20th June, 12.00 hrs. start at Ossenmarkt - finish at Grote Markt.

After a succesful premiere at the Groningen Pride Walk 2025, NP3 takes again part in Pride Groningen 2026, with a float during Pride Walk and the exhibition APPROP. at NP3 | RE:Search:Gallery.

NP3 takes part in the Pride Walk with the striking and flamboyant mobile installation Gondola of Wrath by Jurjen Galema. The float is inspired by the deadly sin of wrath and the corresponding circle of Hell in Dante Alighieri’s La Divina Commedia.

At Jurjen’s invitation, ax710 appears in the creation Stola Penalis, seated on a gondola and accompanied by a red demon as they travel across the Styx, the river of the underworld. In this metaphorical performance, the spectators become the sinners consumed by their own wrath, drowning in the river as the vessel glides past.
