It's been over 2 years(!) since I published the first post in this article series. Although I've already arrived at iteration 4 in the meantime, it's still relevant to show how Alderthe's first design test went. Let me know what you think!

To test if the concept of the turn based strategy card game Alderthe worked, Gerben created a simple prototype to discover the flaws and effects of the game’s design.

I led a workshop on Worldbuilding last Thursday, as part of the Noordelijk Film Festival 2018 in Leeuwarden. The CMD students (from NHL Stenden) in charge of the Worldbuilding Experience programme kindly invited me to do so!

16 participants were introduced to a gamified worldbuilding method that I designed. Worldbuilding can be daunting; the process can make you feel lost or overwhelmed. My method ensures that worlds are created rapidly, economically, and coherently.

I received excellent responses to the method. It empowered the participants to quickly build rough versions of their worlds - in just one hour! (Of course, a two-hour workshop isn't nearly sufficient to build any world.) Furthermore, I was able to spot some opportunities for additional tweaking, ensuring my method is even more appealing and valuable in future applications.

I want to express my thanks to the participants for their commitment and enthusiasm. It was wonderful to watch their ideas transform into worlds that they could then use to generate stories. Final thanks go to the NHL Stenden USA students and the Noordelijk Film Festival for allowing me to do this workshop.

This article is my attempt to take down some myths and misbeliefs that plague professional writing, as well as offer a candid view of my writing process. And it's a bit of a statement.
