What started as an ambitious MTM design turned into a clean and minimal coaxial speaker project. 🔊

For this first DIY speaker build, the original idea was to create an MTM design with two 8-inch woofers and an AMT, inspired by other impressive builds found on Instagram. A friend suggested starting with a simpler coaxial approach instead, and that turned out to be the perfect starting point.

As a graphic designer, the visual design was just as important as the sound. The goal was to create a clean, minimal cabinet that almost feels like a graphic object. The full-width slot port not only made construction easier, but also became an integral part of the design, inspired by the way Onken-style cabinets use their ports.

Component used in this build:
• FaitalPro 10HX240 bass midwoofer coaxial

The project is a great example of how inspiration from the DIY audio community can turn into something completely personal.

A huge thanks to Marc Eden for sharing this project and the story behind it with us!

A new approach to passive radiators. 🔊

RS Speakers has introduced the new PR 6x10, designed to help achieve deep, controlled bass without requiring a larger enclosure.

Its full-flat, basketless design leaves more room inside the cabinet, while the aluminium membrane provides a large radiating surface in a compact format.

Another interesting feature is the adjustable tuning. Adhesive masses are included, allowing you to adapt the moving mass and tuning frequency to your enclosure.

• Aluminium membrane
• Adjustable moving mass

From a birthday gift to a whole new hobby. 🔊

Some speaker projects stand out because of the components. Others because of the story behind them. This one caught our attention for a different reason: the idea started with something as simple as making a birthday gift.

Instead of buying a Bluetooth speaker, Jairo decided to see what he could create himself. That first experiment eventually turned into a serious hobby, with round concrete forms leading to prototypes, plaster moulds, and eventually cast clay fired in a kiln.

Component used in this build:
• Tang Band W5-2143 Paper Cone Full Range Driver

We really like seeing where DIY audio can take people. It doesn’t always start with years of technical knowledge or a perfect design, sometimes it starts with simply thinking: I could try making that myself.

And we think the result of following that curiosity is pretty cool. 🔧

Thanks for sharing your work with us, Jairo 🙌

Meet the Soundshroom. 🍄🔊

It started with a simple idea: create a 2.1 speaker with a 360° sound experience. The result? A mushroom-shaped speaker that combines some pretty interesting DIY audio ideas in one compact design.

The entire enclosure was 3D printed in PA6-CF, a carbon-fibre reinforced nylon, with separate spaces for the speakers and electronics. The top houses two Dayton Audio CX120-8 coaxial drivers, while the base combines a HiVi Swan M6N with an SB Acoustics SB20PFCR-00 passive radiator.

The enclosure itself was quite a project too. Printed in multiple parts, the sections were joined using a plastic welder before being reinforced and sealed with epoxy resin. Inside, aluminium butyl was added for damping, while the thick epoxy coating helped make the enclosure stiffer and airtight.

Components used in this build:

• Dayton Audio CX120-8 Coaxial Driver (x2)
• Swan_Speakers M6N Woofer
• SB Acoustics Official Account SB20PFCR-00 Passive Radiator

We love seeing DIY projects that don’t just follow the usual speaker design rules, but start with a completely different idea and build the system around it.

Thanks for sharing your Soundshroom with us, 🍄

Sometimes less really is more 🔊

Not every great speaker needs a large cabinet or a complex multi-way design. This bookshelf build focuses on getting the fundamentals right: quality components, thoughtful material choices, and a design that makes the most of the available space.

With an MDF core, oak front and rear baffles, and felt-wrapped sides, it has a clean, understated look that matches its listening experience. Compact on the outside, but designed to deliver clear, detailed sound with impressive imaging.

Components used in this build:

Markaudio CHN-50 Full-Range Driver
Dayton Audio ND105-PR Passive Radiator

Together, these components create a compact system with detailed mids, precise imaging, and a surprisingly extended low end thanks to the passive radiator.

Great to see our components used in projects like this. Thanks for sharing, Dennis Eriksson ! 🙌

Would you choose a full-range speaker like this, or do you prefer a traditional two-way design? 👀👇

Some speaker projects are built to sound great. Others are built to become a statement piece. This one does both. 🔊

Inspired by the possibilities of open-baffle loudspeakers, this customer set out to create a speaker that delivers exceptional performance while also standing out as a piece of industrial design.

After experimenting with an earlier open-baffle design, this project became a larger, more ambitious evolution. The goal wasn’t just better sound, but also proving that high-end DIY speakers can be visually striking.

The design naturally came together around laser-cut and bent aluminium, paired with carefully selected drivers and amplification to create a speaker that’s as elegant as it is capable.

Components used:
• Hypex Direct FA253 FusionAmp Plate Amplifier
• SB Audience Bianco-15OB350 Open Baffle Woofer
• SB Audience Bianco-12OB150-01 Open Baffle Woofer

The result is a bold open-baffle speaker that looks unlike anything else and reflects countless hours of designing, building and refining.

This is exactly why we love sharing customer projects. Every build tells a different story, and every builder brings their own ideas to life.

Thank you for sharing with us
