Meet .sos!

'My name is Celina and I study Fine Arts. I have 3 nationalities: Portuguese, American and Nicaraguan and I am of mixed descent. My various nationalities is source for various questions concerning identity and territory. This leads me to wonder about having to conform to certain cultures and to labels or stereotypes assigned to people of a certain nationality. Further more, these leads to ponder over other forms of identity and more specifically related to sexuality and gender. This is, therefore, how I have come to my more recent works, which mainly touch on the topic of stereotypes assigned to gender. My works have to do with the idea of the body as a landscape/territory which has been distorted by patriarchal and one-sided views of our society. And whether you embrace these images or feel uncomfortable with them is up to the viewer to decide.'

Amaya drawn by Geoffrey van Dijk

Listen to what they have to say about themselves and their art: "I come to this place to talk about your parents hitting you when you were a child, your favourite food, the lines in the face of that guy you don´t like, doors when they are semi-open, the grandma that invites you to take a bath in her milk. I come to this place to embrace you with your own feeling of loneliness but mostly I come to be your friend. What I search for in here, is that you feel a nice hand on your back right after the shower. And to achieve that, I make all kinds of works, telling you about my parents, my feelings, my past, and my favourite food."
