Oil paintings of humans, animals and objects with begeisterung and 'life'. Free works ranging from: the blue series, genderseries to portrait assignments.

The works by Bas Nijenhuis are determined by two aspects: a great fascination for painting technique itself and at the same time the content. The latter is mostly about the qualities of light.

Without light there is no life on earth. This light is also what gives life to a painting. Capturing this light is a denominator in his work. Life and ‘animation’ are searched for in the subject: images w

ith a psychological side, intimate and subdued. Oftentimes humans, children or objects are depicted as a vessel for this search. These are all portraits as it were: portraits of an inner world. Both of the subject as of the painter. A meditation on life and all aspects.

The technical side is a great motivator too. To find out what paint can do. Simple matter, but endless possibilities. Thick, thin, opaque, transparent, color and structures. In his works the enjoyment in experimenting with these is noticeable. That streaks of paint and color -in essence very abstract- can form a reality and marvel on their own is for him the true magic of painting!

Forma Aktua opening this afternoon!

Kom naar de expositie ‘Onderhuids’ met werk van Bas Nijenhuis, docent en oud-student van de Klassieke Academie.

Er zijn twintig werken van hem te zien op deze tentoonstelling. Bas: "Ik maak schilderijen en portretten die een geestelijke toestand uitdrukken. Kinderen, volwassenen of dieren als ingang, om zo onder het oppervlak van het bestaan te komen. Mijn werken exploreren wat het betekent om te leven, om ‘in iemands huid’ te kruipen of dichtbij te zijn bij de kwetsbaarheid of naaktheid van het leven zelf."

In the mean time: an museal expo about the Saint Sint Nicolaas, aka ‘Sinterklaas’ in Dutch. Several painters of the quasi-realists show modern depictions of this idea mixed with old icons of this Saint. Nice musical opening last weekend. Open for public in Icon Museum in Kampen. My work is a tempera painting of how Sinterklaas might have been whilst not at work.
