I wrote a new blog post on my website! It is the start of a series on setting up a watercolor travel palette. In this first part I talk about my experiences with different palettes. Next week I will explain how to choose colors. I hope this is usefull if you're interested in seeing and reading about a bunch of well loved watercolor palettes. They make me very happy, I could play with watercolors all day and never get bored โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’™

Do you want to know how to set up a watercolor travel palette? Do you have questions about the different palette options? In this blog I compare the metal watercolor palette tins, the mijello fusion plastic palette and the Art Toolkit Folio palette and my experiences for sketching while travelling w

I have just created a website. So far it includes mainly my work in soft pastel, but I will add more watercolor experimentation to it later this month. I also wrote a blog post about working on Hahnemuhle Velour. You can find my website here:

I'm so happy with how this painting turned out. She was created using mainly soft pastels on velours.

I never knew what to do with the weird garish green color velours included in the multicolored blocks, but I have found out that it is perfect for portraits and I will get some more ๐Ÿคฉ There will be more portraits on velours in my future because I had an absolute blast painting her.

On velours I use almost solely the big soft pastels sticks. I only use pastel pencils for some fly away hairs and cleaning up some edges. I tend to pick colors that are a bit brighter than I would on other surfaces because they seem to lose some intensity on the paper when you rub them in (which is necessary to enable subsequent layers). In this painting I also tried to be really strict in using cooler colors on the shadow side of the face, while the sunlit side is mostly warm oranges, peaches and reds. I used a few transition colors (mainly warm purplish browns and neutrals).

It's time to finally post my flamingo spread. It might be one of my favorite sketchbook pages ever. I really try to force myself to be more loose in my watercolor practice. When I notice that I'm starting to fiddle with details I sometimes just get my spray bottle out and soften some edges.

I love my A4 100% cotton sketchbook.
For many of my backgrounds I like to use the aquarius green and autumn green. They have such beautiful granulation, make wonderful salt effects and have beautiful color separation from just one pan of paint.

Some beluga whales I painted a few months ago in my sketchbook. I used colored pencils for a few colourful contrasts. This painting is impossible to photograph because my phones hypes up the contrast in the background while reducing it in the whales. It also does not show the purples that make up most of the shadows on the whales. I had a lot of fun splashing around a mix of granulating and non granulating paints, drips, and salt on the background though. And beluga whales are awesome, just look at those faces ๐Ÿ‹ ๐Ÿณ

I want to share a bit more of my watercolor work on here. I do post my watercolor practice in my stories but not really on my timeline. This is still one of my favorite spreads in my current sketchbook. The textures on the leave turned out so nice ๐Ÿคฉ and I love the little foot shadow.

This barn owl drawing is finally finished! I started it in fall 2022. It was standing on a chair in my 'studio', staring at me accusingly for leaving it unfinished. I'm happy with how it turned out though and I love the complimentary color palette of purple/violet and brown/orange/yellow. I think it might be my favorite combination of colors. Soft pastels and pastel pencils on 30x40 cm (mais colour).

This year I had much less time for drawing due to working a bit too much. I did create some of my largest pieces to date (the two dog portraits). I also decided to pick up watercolor and practice sketching from life so my smaller pieces are all in watercolor. And I am very close to finishing my first sketchbook ever! Hopefully a bit more pastel next year but I will keep practicing in my sketchbooks as well!
