For years, people kept asking me... “Vanity, are you going to Sun & Bass this year?” Every time I hesitated. A festival dedicated to DnB for days… Hmm? Will I go crazy? A fellow DJ reassured me: “Trust me, Sun & Bass was practically built for you.”

I can tell you now that not a single word was lied. The beauty and relaxed vibe of Sardinia was an amazing backdrop, creating a space where peers in my type sound gathered from every corner of the globe. Bumping into people I’ve connected with online for years, and even ending up sharing stages with some of them felt surreal.

As always, I soaked up every second of the vibes during The North Quarter night at Ambra Night. Seriously, you are all my favorite DJs and vocalists. Playing label nights outside the Netherlands more frequently means I keep running into familiar faces in the crowds, people from Amsterdam and London suddenly appearing in San Teodoro. The closeness of this community is truly incredible. Our chief was felt everywhere; his spirit resonated in almost every set across the island. It was important, necessary, and emotional to feel all this, leaving me with a few unexpected tears in the middle of the streets.

It wasn’t all fun and games though. I worked hard on that island. What shows up on Insta, the DJ gigs and bits of Air Waves is only about 25% of the current projects. Behind the scenes, I’m working alongside cultural funds, coaching, hosting, curating for organisations, and establishing my own foundation. At the moment it’s a lot to carry, but it marks an undeniable shift in my trajectory. I can feel it in every aspect of my work: I am stepping into a completely new chapter of my career, and this only marks the beginning…

Thank you Sun & Bass 2026, NQ gang, peers in the game and the crowd for this unforgettable experience! Being part of S&B was truly a gift!

Sooo let’s recap Signal 2026...

Besides the music, London was once again all about connecting and good vibes. I met up with my buddy at a fancy Japanese bar for some drinks and a sweet vinyl listening session. While roaming around the city, I finally managed to grab a copy of the new dubstep book Aftershock, as well as the Marcus Intalex biography, which was way overdue for me! I pre-ordered it ages ago, my name is literally in the back, but Dutch post decided to return it to the UK over a missing space in my postcode, dafuq.

As for the gig itself: I got to open The Workshop, a brand new area with an evening line-up. The moment the doors opened, people streamed in, and within 15 minutes the whole room was completely packed! Pure warehouse vibes, with that golden evening sun slowly setting through the room, magical. The London TNQ crowd is truly one of a kind. I had the best time playing for you all; just going fully, unapologetically soulful with lot’s of vocals (sorry not sorry!).

At one point, I was so in the zone with you all that I only noticed a flicker in the corner of my eye halfway through my set. I looked over and saw Goldie standing next to me with a smirk: “Hey? You having a good time??” Hahah crazy...

This was our first stage hosting without Teije, and especially during preps, the emotions hit me from time to time. But what a feeling to hear everyone honor him so beautifully in their sets. He’s in everything we do, and the crew vibes were so warm and special because of it. It was truly heart-warming to share this with a dance floor.

Oh, and shoutout to DBADJO for reminding me to bring Nag Champa to The North Quarter gigs to keep traditions up ✨

Next stop: Sun & Bass in Sardinia! It still feels completely surreal to see my name on the lineup alongside all these amazing artists!!

Last year, I came here as a visitor. This year, I’m coming back as a DJ.

I remember being blown away by Signal at The Cause, the huge warehouse at the heart of the night, surrounded by all these different spaces, each one offering its own little world of music.

A small, low-ceilinged basement with the Rupture jungle sound system left a mark on me. And I still remember the smile on my face seeing The North Quarter taking over the main warehouse last year: packed, loud, sweaty, completely locked in, exactly how the vibe is supposed to feel like.

And somehow, a year later, I’m stepping in to open the night in the Workshop after the daytime programme comes to an end. It’s funny how things can come full circle.

Forever grateful to be rolling with The NQ crew, be part of this huge line-up, and to play here in London in the heart of UK Bass.

See you tonight

Croatia 2026

Our days in Zadar were spent swimming in the Adriatic Sea, floating, eating fries, sipping cocktails, and doing misty flips. In between swims, we kept a physical holiday journal, cutting, pasting, and writing to stay present and slow down.

Beyond the water, we explored Zadar’s old town, walked around the Plitvice Lakes, and found an awesome skatepark (Menza) covered in graffiti. I also celebrated my birthday here: my favorite tradition to escape the Netherlands and leave the hustle behind.

I needed this trip more than I realized. Behind the scenes and alongside the DJ gigs, so much is happening right now. And soon, I get to announce something huge that marks a new chapter for me as a creative producer.

I wanted to use this Sunday to look back on last week’s fundraiser at Melkweg. But I just can’t... That night was already so tough, sad and cathartic at the same time, let alone this news. Yesterday, we lost a warrior, a father, a friend, and one of the finest art directors within the soulful spectrum of drum & bass, Teije van Vliet aka Lenzman.

For the past 3.5 years, he fought an incredibly heavy battle against cancer. Never have I seen anyone up close with such an immense fighting spirit, one that I hold in such deep awe. For his family, and to the bitter end, for his passion and his label The North Quarter.

In the years I got to sail alongside Teije, I came to know a razor-sharp art director. Someone with a flawless sense of timing and community, who extended the right opportunities and helping hands at the exact right moment to the people he believed in. He was in a league of his own, building his own ship with love and integrity as his compass. To me, he was a major role model; he showed how you can do your own thing completely in the space between, carving out a lane of your own. It gave me the validation to step into that space between hip-hop and bass and embrace the soulfulness. I am intensely grateful that I was able to thank him for the doors he opened for me.

The fact that the torch of the TNQ Echobox show has now been passed down to me without him around feels unreal. It is a responsibility I do not take lightly. I carry his flag with pride and will lovingly carry on his legacy and soul.

Community, family, friends, I wish you all love, warmth, and strength during this sad time.

My heart, my heart is so heavy…

Rest in power, Teije. 🕊️🖤

After going into social media hibernation end of 2025, a month was spent in Indonesia, the place my grandparents come from. A journey long in the making, and one that can only be described as overwhelming that made me feel all the feels.

As a third-generation Indo-Dutchie, I spent my time exploring for what was never passed down: language, stories, and context. From Jakarta to Bogor, Bandung, Yogyakarta, and Bali, I came to understand, even if only partially, what Indisch zwijgen leaves behind, and what reconnecting can look like 💜

The coming year, there will be more experimentation with (long-form) content on my own website. For those who are interested, a written more in-depth recap on this journey is now available there as a blog, available in Dutch, English, and Bahasa Indonesia.
