Sometimes you don’t have to go far from home for inspiration. ✨

From my studio, I have the loveliest view of the garden. There are birds flying in and out the garden all day, keeping me company while I paint.

And every now and then, one of them actually flies into my studio!

I’m starting to think they’re attracted to my bird paintings… Maybe they recognize their relatives!

How fun is that? I certainly don’t have to look far for inspiration when it literally flies past my window. ❤️

Just to be clear: I don’t mean the fake bird in this video, that one belonged to my mother. 😄

This painting is rich in texture, with a heavily worked surface and delicate crackle effects created in the underlying layers. These raw, weathered elements evoke the feeling of a rugged, untamed landscape shaped by nature and time.

Sometimes it still happens to me. I realize I haven’t been bold enough in my artwork. So I light my fire, turn up some loud, heavy rock music, and let go.

The rest just happens naturally.

There’s so much I learned during the many years I spent at art school. Some lessons stayed with me, others faded away.

But one of the most valuable things I discovered later in my studies was the art of removing parts. And perhaps even painting parts away again.

By removing, erasing, and leaving space, layers begin to appear. The painting becomes more intriguing, more open, more alive.

Not everything needs to be painted. Sometimes, what is left unseen is just as important as what is visible. The viewer’s eye completes the story.

Every day begins the same way… and I wouldn’t have it any other way.😁
A morning walk with my lovely dog named Mazzel. Quiet trails. Fresh air. Birdsong. The first light of the day. This is where my creative process begins.

I photograph the birds that catch my eye, not to copy them, but to capture a feeling, a movement, a moment. Back in my studio, those moments evolve into textured, expressive paintings where nature meets imagination.

For me, art isn’t created in the studio alone. It starts outside, in stillness, observation, and the endless inspiration nature offers.

A perfect day: walking, discovering, creating. ✨

They were wonderful weeks. 🇫🇷🥖
I’d forgotten just how beautiful Normandy is. A stretch of the Opal Coast was also a surprisingly lovely part of France that we’d always just driven past.
You don’t have to go that far to get away from it all for a while.

We’ve also had lots of lovely compliments about our vintage caravan. We think it’s brilliant too, even though we sometimes have to make do and duct tape is our best friend.😁

Back home, it’s straight back to work. Two commissions and lots of free work that I need to put the finishing touches to. That’s the beauty of taking a longer break from the paintings I’ve been working on. When I return to my studio, I can immediately see what needs changing. It’s so strange. Even artworks that I thought still needed a lot of work are actually almost finished. It really does make a difference to step out of your bubble for a while.
