I love the calm and timeless feeling that the Japandi trend can bring into a home.

But… an entire room in beige can feel a little too safe and, dare I say, a bit boring.

My preference? Keep the base calm and serene, and add one or a few true eye-catchers that bring character, colour and personality into the space.

Like this hand-painted artwork, “Rose”

A statement piece of art can completely transform a living room. It adds atmosphere, depth and a personal touch, without disturbing the peaceful feeling of a Japandi-inspired interior.

Because a beautiful home doesn’t have to be busy. Sometimes, one unique piece is all you need.

Every day begins the same way… and I wouldn’t have it any other way.😁
A morning walk with my lovely dog named Mazzel. Quiet trails. Fresh air. Birdsong. The first light of the day. This is where my creative process begins.

I photograph the birds that catch my eye, not to copy them, but to capture a feeling, a movement, a moment. Back in my studio, those moments evolve into textured, expressive paintings where nature meets imagination.

For me, art isn’t created in the studio alone. It starts outside, in stillness, observation, and the endless inspiration nature offers.

A perfect day: walking, discovering, creating. ✨

It’s turned out a bit differently from what I’d had in mind, but that’s not a bad thing. Especially not when it’s turned out so beautifully 😁

Title: Across the Silver Lake

You can see this artwork at Sille Gallery Oudewater.
Come and visit the charming, picturesque town of Oudewater and this beautiful gallery 😁

Across the Silver Lake is a warm and atmospheric painting featuring two birds flying over a peaceful waterscape. The work is built on a richly textured surface, giving the painting depth and character.

To give the painting a more modern feel, loose circles of gold leaf have been incorporated throughout the artwork. These abstract elements create an interesting balance between the natural landscape and contemporary design. The overall result is a calm, elegant piece with both texture and warmth.

“Tell Me Lies” a title deliberately chosen to intrigue. She draws you in with a gaze that promises understanding, even loyalty. It feels like you could tell her anything. Your secrets... your sins... all safe in her silent keeping. Or so you think. There’s something haunting beneath the surface. A perfect balance of trust and doubt.

The creatingprocess. . .
First, a lot of structure was created with thick gesso and pieces of paper. Then she was painted in many thick and transparent layers of paint. Gold and bronze paints were used extensively. These light up beautifully in daylight or spotlight.

Sometimes you don’t have to go far from home for inspiration. ✨

From my studio, I have the loveliest view of the garden. There are birds flying in and out the garden all day, keeping me company while I paint.

And every now and then, one of them actually flies into my studio!

I’m starting to think they’re attracted to my bird paintings… Maybe they recognize their relatives!

How fun is that? I certainly don’t have to look far for inspiration when it literally flies past my window. ❤️

Just to be clear: I don’t mean the fake bird in this video, that one belonged to my mother. 😄

This painting is rich in texture, with a heavily worked surface and delicate crackle effects created in the underlying layers. These raw, weathered elements evoke the feeling of a rugged, untamed landscape shaped by nature and time.
Antique metallic green tones bring elegance to the composition, while subtle touches of gold are woven throughout the scene. They suggest the warm reflection of sunlight, catching and illuminating beautifully whenever the light falls across the surface.

I’ve just realised that I’ve never actually painted her portrait. She certainly deserves one . . .
