Benjamin benadert thema’s die aansluiten bij de hedendaagse wereld, zoals consumentisme en massaproductie, op een objectgerichte en materiële manier. Zijn sculpturen tonen een intrigerende dualiteit. Enerzijds treffen we kant-en-klare objecten aan, alsof ze net uit een fabriek komen, en anderzijds zien we zelfgemaakte en bewerkte objecten binnen dezelfde installatie, getiteld: Bulging out the sssleeve. De ruimte nodigt uit tot een langzame beschouwing, waarbij desoriëntatie beweging oproept, zowel fysiek als mentaal. De spanningen die uit deze koude materialen voortkomen, fungeren als een tegenkracht tegen de logica van tijdsefficiëntie en een op winst gerichte economie. Hoe lang kunnen we blijven doorgaan ten koste van de wereld, van mensen en van niet-menselijk leven?

Benjamin approaches themes that resonate with the contemporary world, such as consumerism and mass production, in an object-oriented and material way. His sculptures reveal an interesting duality. On one hand we encounter ready-made objects, freshly coming out of a factory, and on the other hand we see self-produced and modified objects in the same installation titled: Bulging out the sssleeve. The space invites a slow inspection, where disorientation is inducing movement, both physical and cerebral. The tensions that emerge from these cold materials act as a counterforce to the logic of time efficiency and profit-oriented economy. How long can we run at the expense of the world, of humans, and of non-human life?

Born for Nothing, een installatie van Marieke Heerema en Floris Barnhoorn.
Je komt binnen in een ruimte afgesloten door fabrieksstroken. Het plastic fluistert zachtjes terwijl je erdoorheen glijdt. Daarachter ontvouwt zich een ruimte die zowel klinisch als onheilspellend aanvoelt, alsof de arbeiders die hier werken net zijn weggelopen en midden in een proces alles hebben achtergelaten.

De opening is op 8 mei om 19.00 uur met een performance van Danielle Huyghe.

You enter a space enclosed by industrial strip curtains. The plastic whispers softly as you slip through. Beyond it unfolds a room that feels both clinical and ominous, as if the workers who laboured here have only just left, abandoning everything mid-process.

The opening is on 8 May at 19.00 with a performance by Danielle Huyghe.

Nog twee weekenden te zien! De solotentoonstelling van Hala Tawil. Hala, geboren in 1991 in Libanon, is een hedendaagse beeldend kunstenaar die in Nederland woont en werkt.

Haar werk bestaat uit vignetten van interieurruimtes waarin gefragmenteerde vrouwelijke figuren verschijnen. Aan de hand van digitaal gemodelleerde composities en visuele metaforen onderzoekt zij de relatie tussen het zelf, het lichaam en materiële omgevingen, en stelt zij vragen bij het menselijke gevoel van verbondenheid en thuishoren in de fysieke wereld.

Only two weekends left to see the solo exhibition by Hala Tawil. Hala, born in Lebanon in 1991, is a contemporary visual artist based in The Netherlands.

Her work features vignettes of interior spaces imbued with fragmented female figures. Through her digitally modeled compositions and visual metaphors, she explores the relationship between the self, the body, and material environments, questioning the human sense of belonging in the physical world.

Voor functioneert het maken van beelden als een manier om een psychologisch toneel te creëren. Zij construeert ruimtelijke composities door ruimtes, interieurs en objecten te modelleren met een uitgesproken theatrale intentie. De centrale speler in haar werk is het gefragmenteerde, naakte vrouwelijke lichaam. Als katalysator van elke scène positioneert het anonieme lichaam zich op ongemakkelijke wijze binnen de compositie: het glipt tussen de ruimtes door en wordt zo een object tussen andere objecten.

In At arm’s length blijft het ‘zelf’ tegelijk aanwezig en dubbelzinnig, terwijl het lichaam zich beweegt tussen het zijn-onder-objecten en het zelf een object worden.

For Hala Tawil, image-making functions as a way of setting a psychological stage. She constructs spatial compositions by modeling spaces, interiors, and objects with deliberate theatrical intent. The central actor in her work is the fragmented, n**e female figure. A catalyst of each scene, the anonymous body situates itself awkwardly within the composition, slipping in between the spaces, becoming another object among objects.

‘At arm’s length’, the self remains both present and ambiguous, as the body moves between being among objects and becoming an object itself.

Qiao Chu Guo (hen/hun; geboren in Jingmen, China, en wonend in Nederland) is geïnteresseerd in het lichaam als een levend archief van gevestigde sociale structuren. Hun werk speelt met de autonomie van hacken, ondermijnen, verstoren en herstellen. Qiao werkt met installaties, tekeningen, video en performance, en onderzoeken daarin de uitbreiding en transformatie van het lichaam.

ENG
(they/them; born in Jingmen, China, and based in the Netherlands) is interested in the body as a living archive of established social structures. Their work plays with the autonomy of hacking, defeating, disrupting and restoring. They work across installations, drawings, video and performance, exploring the extension and transformation of the body.

Deze tentoonstelling ontvouwt zich via drie met elkaar verweven leugens: een leugen van geluk, een leugen van wetenschap en een leugen van eer. Elk ervan werkt via het lichaam, elk belooft betekenis, vooruitgang of deugd, en elk laat een residu achter dat niet onder woorden kan worden gebracht.

In contrast met Qiao chu Guo’s eerdere performancegerichte werken experimenteert deze tentoonstelling met de mogelijkheid om kennis te produceren via ontrafelde geschiedenis, waar taal, zowel verbaal als lichamelijk, faalt. Door de tijd stil te zetten op een specifiek moment, een specifieke scène, stapelen ruïnes en overblijfselen zich op. Via voldoende sporen beginnen historische details te spreken.

This exhibition unfolds through three intertwined lies: a lie of happiness, a lie of science, and a lie of honour. Each operates through the body, each promises meaning, progress, or virtue, and each leaves behind a residue that cannot be spoken.

In contrast to Qiao chu Guo’s earlier performance-based works, this exhibition experiments with the possibility of producing knowledge through naked history—where language, both verbal and bodily, fails. By arresting time at a specific moment, a specific scene, ruins and remains accumulate. Through sufficient traces, historical details begin to speak.

We are finally open! Thank you all for celebrating the opening of our first two exhibition spaces with us. We are very happy to be a creative cultural incubator and meeting place in the centre of Eindhoven once again.

Our TAC residents are moving back in as we speak. We are also still working on the final section of our TAC building, and we hope to open the large exhibition space and horeca facilities at the end of 2026.
