🏝️Had a great vacation, inspiring me to this painting.

In January 2023 I visited the Philippines with my wife. We caught up with family living there and travelled the beautiful country.
One of our trips was to the Visayas, the third largest island in the Philippines

Visayas has beautiful natural wonders which makes it an ideal destination for a vacation. A few examples are the beautiful Chocolate Hills, Apo Island, and Boracay Island. We have visited Boracay three times already, as it so amazing. The island boasts of crystal azure waters, powdery white sand, abundant flora and fauna, and diverse marine life.

I looked back at the many pictures we took of the calm-wavy sea with the beach sand reflecting the yellow of the setting sun.

It immediately inspired me to make this painting; Visayas waves.

I have some News that I am very proud of, and feel honoured by!

My painting “Brazilian Kiss” has been chosen by the art committee of JaKunst to be printed on the front of the Art Gift Voucher, with the message to me "because of the quality of your work". Something I'm obviously very proud of.

The Art Gift Voucher has a value of € 10 and will be in circulation from March 2023. Initially, 5000 copies of the voucher will be printed.
Art lovers can use their Art Gift Vouchers at affiliated artists to buy beautiful art.
During the upcoming Brabant Art Fair (www.brabantartfair.nl), every visitor will receive Art Gift Vouchers worth €20 as a gift, at the entrance. An extra reason to visit the Brabant Art Fair in the Koepelhal in Tilburg.

On the weekend of March 18 and 19, from 11 a.m. to 5.30 p.m., for one weekend, the Koepelhal in Tilburg will be the largest and most beautiful gallery in the Netherlands.

Mijn schilderij “Brazilian Kiss” is door de kunstcommissie van JaKunst verkozen om op de voorkant van de KunstCadeaubon te worden afgedrukt, met de mededeling naar mij “vanwege de kwaliteit van je werk”. Iets waar ik natuurlijk beretrots op ben.

De KunstCadeaubon heeft een waarde van € 10,- en komt per maart 2023 in omloop. Van de cadeaubon worden in eerste instantie 5.000 exemplaren gedrukt.
Kunstliefhebbers kunnen met hun KunstCadeaubonnen bij aangesloten kunstenaars prachtige kunst kopen.
Tijdens de komende Brabant Art Fair (www.brabantartfair.nl) krijgt iedere bezoeker bij de ingang KunstCadeaubonnen ter waarde van €20 cadeau. Een extra reden om de Brabant Art Fair in de Koepelhal in Tilburg te bezoeken.

In het weekend van 18 en 19 maart, van 11.00 tot 17.30 uur, is de Koepelhal in Tilburg even de grootste en mooiste galerie van Nederland.

🏝️Inspired by sun, waves, … vacation 😎

Last January I visited several beautiful places in the Phillipines, among which Mindanao.

One of my visits was to the Surigao Province, which is well known by surfers for it’s great waves.

Mindanao, the second largest island in the Philippines, is an enchanting place with volcanic mountains hidden by tropical plants, landing on white and pink sand beaches.

I saw panoramic islands with long stretches of pristine white sand beaches, mystical caves, vast mangrove forest and under beautiful water sceneries.

I had an Interview for the section Artist Featured on Exto.

With the interview you get an Insight into how I see my Abstract Art, what it means to me and how I come to a Work of Art.

Exto is an online community for visual artists and art lovers. They asked me the following questions:

Op 15 januari 2023 had ik een Interview met Exto voor hun rubriek Kunstenaar Uitgelicht.

Met het interview krijg je een Inkijkje in hoe ik mijn Abstracte Kunst ziet, wat het voor mij Betekent en hoe ik tot een Kunstwerk kom.

Exto is een online community voor beeldend kunstenaars en kunstliefhebbers.

Zij stelden me de volgende 6 vragen over mij en mijn kunst:

Last summer of 2022 I painted a series in PopArt style, related to a kiss. A kiss is such a tender way to express your feelings and affection for someone. How can it not be inspiring to an artist?

I made two paintings called "love 2 Kiss U", alternating in this little movie clip.

The week is half done, time for a creative arts moment

In the summer of 2022 I painted a series in PopArt style. Art inspired by kissing or kisses and the emotions I feel when kissing. Paintings in PopArt style related to a kiss, enhanced with an epoxy coating. A kiss is such a tender way of expressing your feelings and affection for someone. How can it not be inspirational to any artist?

The background of the painting is in "fluid art" style, where the dynamics in the flow of paint represent passion and the emotions of a human connection. In “fluid art” paint semi-randomly mixes with other paint, without merging to new colours as coloured paint floats over a base layer of fluid paint. In minimalistic line drawing outlines of two faces affectionately kissing each other are added. To make the faces stand out, the area between the faces is painted in a neutral colour.

A thick layer of clear UV-resistant epoxy gives a beautiful depth to the painting and really draws attention to it when it is hanging on the wall. The epoxy gives deep reflections as you pass the paining.

Red shiny lips 40x50cm

This painting is part of my summer 2022 series of PopArt inspired by a kiss.

A kiss is such a tender way of expressing your feelings and affection for someone. How can it not be inspirational to any artist. This work of art has been inspired by kissing and all the emotions it gives me.

Nice to know: Until lipstick was popularized in the early 20th century, red lips were often associated with morally dubious women: impolite, sexually amoral, even heretical. In the Dark Ages, red lips were seen as a sign of commingling with the devil.

During World War II, red lips had a bold act of defiance. Adolf Hi**er famously hated red lipstick. In Allied countries, wearing it became a sign of patriotism and a statement against fascism.

Brazilian Kiss - 40x50cm

A kiss is such a tender way of expressing your feelings and affection for someone. How can it not be inspirational to any artist.

This work of art has been inspired by kissing and all the emotions it gives me.

The painting was created in several steps over a 4 weeks period of time.
The background of the painting expresses flames, passion and connection. It was created in an art style called “fluid art” where paint semi-randomly mixes with other paint, without merging to new colours.

In minimalistic line drawing I then added the outlines of two faces passionately kissing each other.
To make the faces stand out, the area between the faces was blackened out, so it becomes the background.

The thick layer of epoxy, that I put on finally, gives a beautiful depth to the painting and really draws attention to it when it is hanging on the wall. The clear UV-resistant epoxy on top of the dark background will show alternating reflections as you pass along the paining.

"Anomaly of the cosmological principle"
2 x 83cmx123cm Mixed media, modern abstract art.

Inspired by my fascination for the cosmos, … and it’s anomalies.

We know only one universe. We therefore cannot analyse it by comparing it to anything similar. So, in order to understand and to try and make sense of it, so we can describe it, we have to accept certain assumptions about it. These assumptions are called the cosmological principle. In short: on average, on a very, very large scale the universe looks the same (homogenous and isotropic) in all directions, in all regions.

The existence of a repeating structure, like synchronised galaxies or correlations in quasars at different locations in the universe, sometimes with a distance of over 20 million light years, suggests that there should be a super large-scale structure in the universe. These anomalies violate the cosmological principle.

Both paintings should be hung with a space of 20cm -80cm from each other. But if you hang both painting without space between them, you might notice another anomaly hiding in the cosmos ;-)
