Van Hoytema belonged to the artistic group of so-called ‘Bremmerianen’ with a.o Julie de Graag, Tjitske Hettinga Tromp and Anna van Egter van Wissekerke.
Her work is kept in the collections of for instance the Museum Kroller-Muller and in the Kunstmuseum The Hague.

In this little gem the artist was possibly very much inspired by the dynamic movement of the sea, the breakers and the waves rendered by Gustave Courbet, Jan Toorop or James Ensor before him.
