This is one of four rare gouaches to be dated circa 1914 by Dutch artist and designer Lanooy.

This Japanese artist frequented Paris in the 1920-30’s and grouped together with someone like his compatriot the painter Foujita.

In 1929 he also exposed his work with Galerie Georges Petit in Paris.

The mask on the right is Serufo, Ivory Coast.
Van Hoytema belonged to the artistic group of so-called ‘Bremmerianen’ with a.o Julie de Graag, Tjitske Hettinga Tromp and Anna van Egter van Wissekerke.
Her work is kept in the collections of for instance the Museum Kroller-Muller and in the Kunstmuseum The Hague.
