This is the largest painting I have created so far. Working on it gives me a wonderful feeling. I am already looking forward to the next stage, where I will make it even more realistic. Here, I’m taking you through the process of bringing a green leaf to life so it looks real.

Since I paint with oils, I build the painting up in layers.
The first layer is a brown underpainting—you can’t see it right now, but I’ll show it in another post.
The second layer adds more color but still looks very flat, superficial, and dull.
The more layers you apply, the more the leaf comes to life, and that’s what you see here.

Does it all happen automatically and super fast?
Well, no.
I spent months thinking about how to approach it—which technique, which colors—retaking photos for reference, and finally just diving in and doing it.
I’m amazed at the result; I think it turned out really well!

This painting has a beautiful story.

A mother came to me with the question if I could make a painting for her daughter eighteen birthday.
When the mother, in her time became eighteen she got a painting from her parents and that tradition she wanted to be continuing.
How lovely is that!

This flower is the apple blossom and it’s a delicate beauty of representing the spring.
I focused on building up the light and shadow to give each bloom its own depth and dimension.
