After two years of creating seascapes, it feels like the right time for a new direction. I’m moving toward more decorative pieces, focusing on forms that feel organic and grounded.

Right now, I’m in the process of exploring new clay bodies and testing glazes, searching for surfaces that carry rawness, depth, and life. This piece is just an experiment, a first step in finding the right textures and finishes.

Excited to see where this path leads. For now, just enjoying the process!

It’s been a while since you’ve seen me here! The cold has kept me out of the studio, and our space has often been used by , who recently launched his own ceramics platform—super exciting! A lot of videos have been recorded here, which, of course, requires silence.

At the same time, I’m struggling with increasingly strict product safety regulations in Europe, along with rising taxes, shipping costs, and import fees. I thought using commercial, food-safe glazes would be enough to prove my work is safe, but apparently, it’s not.

But maybe this challenge is also an opportunity—to look wider, see new possibilities, and rethink my approach. Instead of focusing on functional ware, I’m considering a shift toward more decorative pieces. Moving away from production to a more thoughtful, creative process. Less about quantity, more about artistry.

Perhaps this is exactly the right moment to embrace a new approach!

Amid the chaos of this time of year, I hope you can find a quiet moment with a warm drink, maybe some candlelight, and a sweet treat.

I always use this time to reflect on what I’ve accomplished and to plan for the year ahead. For 2025, I’ve decided to focus primarily on mugs. While I’ve made a few in the past, I’m excited to explore new shapes and finishes that fit with my current work, all while simplifying the glazing process.

Moments like these—simple, calm, and filled with warmth—are what I hope to bring with each piece I make.

Did you spot the cute set of wooden trees in the background? 🎄 I found them at and couldn’t resist adding a little extra touch of nature to my cozy space. (He ships internationally)

Freshly picked medlars in one of my handmade bowls. A few years ago, we planted a medlar tree, and this autumn it’s finally bearing enough fruit for us to try making jam for the first time! I’ve never made medlar jam before, but I’m excited to see what this ancient fruit tastes like.

This utensil pot is inspired by the colors and textures of the North Sea. The blue glaze shows the changing shades of the sea, while the sandy brown base represents the coast. The mix of colors reflects the connection between land and water.

Last weekend, we participated in the Atelierroute Altena along with 30 other makers and artists. It was overwhelming! In just two days, more than 150 people managed to find us. We received heartwarming reactions and enjoyed the lively atmosphere. Sometimes it was so busy that we couldn’t personally speak to everyone.
Thank you! To everyone who took the time to visit us, to everyone who purchased something, to the organizers of the route, and to all the fellow participants who recommended us to their visitors. And thank you for the beautiful photos of my work in your homes.
A big thanks to Helger, who made, served, and poured countless amounts of coffee and tea, and also helped ensure everything ran smoothly.
Thank you to for giving our work a lovely spot at the Uitmarkt Altena.
Dear , it was a joy to do this together with you!
Weren’t able to make it, but would still like to visit us? From now on, we are open every Saturday from 12:00 to 17:00.

On the weekend of October 5th and 6th, I’ll be part of the Atelierroute Altena. Along with 30 other makers and artists from Altena, we’ll be opening our studios to visitors. I’ll have some bigger pots and bowls on display, and a range of cups like these too! It's the first time I'll participate in an event like this, and I don't know how many visitors we'll get, but I'm really excited to share my work and meet some of you!

It may seem like I took a six-week vacation, but while I did take a break—visiting Normandy and working on house renovations—I’ve also been busy behind the scenes with my ceramics. I've been creating new, larger pieces, though the high humidity slowed the drying process, which delayed their completion. Today, I visited my favorite river to photograph the finished work. The first piece I’m sharing is this speckled grey bowl, glazed with hues inspired by the River Waal, blending soft blues and earthy tones to mimic the flowing water and natural surroundings.

In recent weeks, I’ve been experimenting with various clay bodies. I'm really enjoying the variation and the unique outcomes each type of clay offers, though I still have a soft spot for this red clay!
