This lavish world map was first issued by Alexis-Hubert Jaillot nearly a century previous. This re-issue by Elwe retains the cartography with the island of California with Terre de Iesso just off shore of North America. In the Pacific there is a partial coastline of New Zealand and Van Diemens Land together with partial coastline for Terre Australe et Inconnue et Magellanique. It is probably the last published map to show California as an island. The map is beautifully decorated with a rich allegorical background. The female representations of the four continents adorn the corners with figures representing the virtues of Justice with her ax and scales, Truth holding a mirror while being attacked by a serpent, Fortitude with a broken column, and Temperance mixing wine and water.

One of the earliest, obtainable maps to focus on Taiwan. Oriented with north to the left, the map shows the southwestern portion of the island, as well as the adjacent Penghu Islands (Ilhas Piscadores). The detail is limited to a few place names along the coast and anchorages, shoals, and depth soundings in the surrounding waters. The interior of the island is filled with a large panoramic view of a mountain range.

This map of the continent is Henricus Hondius' issue of Jodocus Hondius' map, but without the decorative borders that were masked in order to fit the map into an atlas format. The geography is largely speculative and follows Blaeu's map of 1617 with the Cuama River originating in the mountains rather than in the Sachaf Lake below the Mountains of the Moon (Lunae Montes). The origin of the Nile conforms to the Ptolemaic tradition of the two twin lakes south of the equator.

Oudtijds gekleurde kopergravure in vogelvluchtperspectief van de stad, getekend door Jacob Meyer. Deze vroege kaart van de stad is verschenen in het eerste deel van de Civitates Orbis Terrarum, het zesdelige stedenboek van G. Braun en F. Hogenberg. Met het wapen van Holland linksboven (opmerkelijk foutief) en het wapen van de stad rechtsboven. Bijzonder hieraan is dat dit stadswapen deels blauw is ingekleurd in plaats van rood. Een fenomeen wat in die periode vaker voorkwam doordat de (doorgaans Hollandse) "afsetters" de codering van rood (keel, verticale strepen) en blauw (azuur, horizontale strepen) verwarden.
De toelichting links en rechts onderaan verhaalt onder meer de volgende feiten: ‘Trajectum [Ultrajectum, Utrecht] is een beroemde oude bisschopsstad. Het wordt Trajectum genoemd omdat het aan de overzijde van de oude Rijn ligt. Men moet het niet verwarren met Trajectum Mosae [Maastricht].

Een zeldzame grootfolio-formaat kopergravure van de zeven provinciën van Nederland. Het is de eerste in Engeland vervaardigde kaart van de VII Provinciën. In kwabcartouche rechtsboven bekroond met het wapen van de Republiek en een masker aan de onderzijde. In het cartouche is een deel van de tekst onder de titel verwijderd. De verdwijning duidt op een vroegere editie. Links aan de bovenzijde een niet ingevuld wapen boven een ovaal leeg schild. Het is gegraveerd door James Moxon uit Wakefield.

Die opengewerkte gravures uit de 18de eeuw blijven tot de verbeelding spreken. Van de week nog de tuinen van Paleis het Loo bezocht, nu een zeer zeldzame gravure uit 1760 van de tuinen en het Paleis aan de collectie van antiquariaat Edward Wells kunnen toevoegen:

Très rare grande vue de profil de Paris face au nord. Sous l’image, un verset latin de huit pièces de A. Montanus, avec une traduction néerlandaise et une traduction Français. Légende avec 58 touches et empreinte des éditeurs en bas à droite. Impression agréable et sombre.

Early town plan of Vilnius by Francesco Valegio.

Appeared in: "Universus Terrarum Orbis (..)" by Alphonso Lasor à Varea and published by Frambotti, Jo. Baptistæ Conzatti in Padua, Italy, 1713.

Lasor a Varea, whose real name was Raffaello Savonarola, published his two-volume scriptural and historical dictionary with nearly 500 maps that were taken from old plates by Valegio, Porcacchi, Rosaccio-Franco, and Magini, many of which were more than a century old, and often reworked.
