Title: Cafe terrace during Corona lock down.

Here's my take on Van Gogh's "Cafe terrace at night". I love the light in the original, it is one of the very few night paintings that doesn't use black (swipe to see the original). Ofcourse, I added my own touch to it to portray current times, with restaurants closed, chairs stacked, window silhouettes and the "Houd Afstand 1.5 m".

Title: Lonely Traveller
Location: Spring In Kyoto, 2017

I love traveling alone. There is so much freedom and opportunity, I surely learn a lot every time I try it. In spite of the unreal beauty you are exposed to, sometimes you could feel alone in a crowd. This was one of those days. Nevertheless I think I met some amazing people later that evening and things just turned out for the better.
If you haven't visited Kyoto yet, please book a trip. I really feel that the city is beautiful throughout the year. But as always, Spring is my favourite.

Title: Pagoda in Spring
Location: Sensoji temple, Tokyo
This here is an abstract gouache painting inspired by the five-storeyed Pagoda at Sensoji Temple, Tokyo. The pagoda is colourful in its own way, however this painting is supposed to complement the colors of Sakura (Cherry Blossoms). Spring is my favourite time in Japan. It has so much to offer.

Title: Balinese Om! 🕉

This was my first attempt at wood carving. It was definitely harder than it looked. Too bad I couldn't get a better photo of the finished work. It is now adorning the wall at my home in Chennai.

Title: How it all started!
Location: Mount A*o, Kumamoto
I have been positing sketches from my solo backpacking trip in a few countries across South East Asia. This is the exact place which inspired me to travel and simply "Go see".
Mount A*o is the largest active Volcano in Japan. I tried trekking the mountain amidst stormy weather but couldn't get the view I was hoping for. Instead this was what I saw - a stairway to someplace else. That's what travel does to you no? Unexpected turn of events to something totally new and beautiful. I wanted to get that feeling again and again - being pleasantly surprised by the things we can't control 😊 .
This is a water colour sketch with rough marker lines, I hope it reflects my feeling of hope and freshness at that moment. .
