Energetic free improvisations led by Norwegian drummer and sonic adventurer.
André Roligheten saxophones, Petter Eldh double bass, Gard Nilssen drums
No holds barred at the performances by Gard Nilssen Acoustic Unity: with just sax, double bass and drums, they manage to break new ground time and again, without losing coherence. They aim high: saxophonist André Roligheten, double bassist Petter Eldh and drummer Gard Nilssen are inspired by avant jazz legends such as Albert Ayler and Ornette Coleman. 2022 will see the release of the new album by Gard Nilssen Acoustic Unity on ECM Records.
Gard Nilssen is one of the current spearheads of progressive Scandinavian jazz. Alongside Acoustic Unity he’s part of Bushman’s Revenge, which has been described as the missing link between Albert Ayler and Black Sabbath. He also plays in Amgala Temple, which draws comparisons with Jimi Hendrix Experiece and electric-era Miles Davis. Last summer he formed the 16-piece Supersonic Orchestra, which can sound as energetic as his other bands.
Sonic Adventurer Gard Nilssen is here tomorrow. With Petter Eldh and André Roligheten he forms Acoustic Unity. With just sax, double bass and drums, they manage to break new ground time and again. Curious? Tune in to BIMHUIS TV tomorrow at 8:30 PM --> bit.ly/acoustic-unity
