Introducing coming weekend at CAN Ibiza The After:

Allard Warmelink (1986, Rotterdam) is a Dutch artist and designer working between sculpture and collectible design. His practice takes familiar objects and design-history references, then shifts their material, scale and proportion until recognition no longer fully explains them. A chair-like form may stay legible while its function becomes uncertain.

Reduced to strong structural elements, lines, planes and joints, his pieces retain a raw, industrial quality, with construction itself part of the image. Rather than quoting design history, Warmelink strips familiar forms back and rebuilds them, asking how objects become culturally recognisable and how easily that recognition can shift.

Studio Visit | Claire Witteveen

Every exhibition begins long before the opening.

Before travelling to CAN Ibiza, we spent the afternoon in Claire Witteveen’s studio, surrounded by works in different stages of completion. Looking, discussing, rearranging. Considering not only which paintings belonged together, but how they would shape the conversation.

In two weeks, a curated selection from this body of work returns for CAN Ibiza: The After at The NewHouse Garden Room.

An invitation to experience the works in a different setting at the private residence of the founder of NewHouse Gallery Mick Nieuwenhuis.

The fair may be over, but the conversation continues. For those who couldn’t make it to the island, NewHouse Gallery brings a curated selection of available works from CAN Ibiza back to Amsterdam.

Presented at the private gallery on the Prinsengracht, CAN Ibiza: THE AFTER offers a second opportunity to experience the exhibition in a slower, more intimate setting.

Bringing to CAN Art Fair Ibiza this week: Claire Witteveen, JULIE HAVERKAMP Allard Warmelink and Willem van hooff

Together, these artists share an interest in transformation: of materials, memories, objects, and ideas. Their works invite viewers to look again, discovering new perspectives within what may initially seem familiar. There is a quiet sense of recognition throughout the presentation, as if returning to something known, yet seen anew. In that way, the exhibition resonates with the idea of Newhouse as a place of coming home to perception: where familiarity becomes the starting point for rediscovery.

Currently on view at MIA Photo Fair, a duo presentation by Carlie Consemulder and Lotte Ekkel.

Consemulder’s Mint Condition, Monaco ’74 unfolds as a constructed memory. Drawing from the visual language of the 1970s, the series moves between nostalgia and fiction, like still frames from a forgotten film, where scenes feel both familiar and unresolved.

Rather than documenting a past, the work suggests it. Fragments of a narrative linger, leaving space for what came before and what might follow.

At MIA Photo Fair, NewHouse presents a duo presentation by Lotte Ekkel and Carlie Consemulder.

We’ll be presenting two series by Lotte Ekkel, Double Happiness and ‘Forging the Sun and Weaving the Moon’ as an interlude for her solo at Art Rotterdam next week.

Ekkel’s Double Happiness was developed during her time in China, drawing from the traditional “Double Happiness” symbol (囍), historically tied to union and shared fortune. Rather than affirming its meaning, she reframes it. Across the series, duality becomes unstable: intimacy and distance, reflection and interruption, presence and absence.

Collaboration makes the room.

Showing at Collectible this week with Atkris was a dream come true. The works didn’t just sit side by side. They amplified each other and as did we.

What made the booth come to life even more was a second collaboration, with my friend Anouk and her brand We Are Wow Makers. The walls were finished with her Wall Gloss. A luminous surface inspired by Italian palazzi. Colour: Los Angeles. Created. Coloured. Collected.

And speaking of Italy. I just landed in Milan, preparing the next chapter.
