Painting British battledress.

The crew to the princess Irene brigade m3 scout car as seen in the last slide wear standard British battledress which, using the .official 3rd gen British uniform colours is very straight forward to paint.

That cannot be said of the construction of the figures themselves however as in order to get them to fit inside the opening in the canvas roof of the scout car and to be as authentic to the original image as possible I had to cobble them together through an amalgamation of alpine, masterbox, miniart, tamiya and self sculpted parts. With the “porkchop” microphones and their wires scratch built.

Close up scout car weathering and historical inspiration.

As the allies entered France and the Low Countries their armoured vehicles where adorned with flowers, confetti and quite often grafitti as liberated civilians met the allied vehicles in the streets. This m3 scout car of the princess Irene brigade is no different. And historical photos of the vehicle show flowers fastened to the vehicle through the straps holding the canvas roof in place. These where mimicked in 1/35 scale using lasercut flowers.

Painting the hidden spaces and places.
Prinses Irene M3 scout car radio car Amsterdam 1945.

I decided to paint the interior with scc2 as these vehicles where supposedly second hand canadian vehicles and from early (1942) in the lend-lease procurement process.
