A State of Play follows Australian surfer Drew McPherson and his buddy photographer Nathan Henshaw from their home town on the east coast to a remote desert coast in search of waves. The film explores the idea of staying in a ‘state of play’, retaining a childlike curiosity and the stoke that this brings. The surfing world recently lost one of its greats. David 'Baddy' Treloar was an exceptional shaper and star of Alby Falzon’s 1971 masterpiece film “Morning of the Earth”. Baddy summed up the original Country Soul surfing life, living the dreamiest of surfing existences on the rural coast of Angourie, building boards in his yard and racing hollow waves just a short hike away. As the rest of the surfing world moved on to professionalism, careers, the boom of the surf brands, corporatisation, Baddy simply stayed put until passing away on the beach of his beloved Angourie.
