🎶 Honoring Ella Fitzgerald in Yonkers, NY
Yesterday (May 5, 2026), Warren and I visited the beautiful statue of Ella Fitzgerald in Yonkers. We were brought there by great living legend from Yonkers, trumpeter Charles Tolliver!
Known as “The First Lady of Jazz,” Ella Fitzgerald (1917–1996) remains one of the most influential vocalists of all time. Her pure tone, impeccable phrasing, and groundbreaking s**t singing set a standard that still defines jazz today. From her early success at the Apollo Theater to a legendary international career, she inspired generations with her artistry, resilience, and joy.
Standing beside her statue is a powerful reminder of the roots of this music and the legacy we are proud to be part of.
🙏 The sculpture was created by Vinnie Bagwell and commissioned by the City of Yonkers.

For the 5th consecutive year, the Saskia Laroo Band had the honor to close the festival — joined this time by legendary tenor saxophonist Hans Dulfer.
The energy on stage and from the audience was incredible — a true celebration of jazz, funk and groove.

Legendary saxophonist Hans Dulfer is back!
On Koningsdag, Monday April 27, 2026, the Saskia Laroo Band ft. Hans Dulfer will deliver the closing concert of the Royal Jazz Festival at Bullekerk Cultureel Centrum in Zaandam.
This marks the 5th consecutive year that the Saskia Laroo Band headlines this festival — a true King’s Day tradition. Previous editions featured special guests such as Benjamin Herman, Ronald Snijders, Hans Dulfer and Joseph “Mr. Defunkt” Bowie.
Expect a high-energy performance full of jazz, funk, grooves and fearless improvisation.
