This summer, artist Anne Mei Poppe will take over the My Lima Lima space with a new exhibition: The Carriers.

And for this upcoming series, we are inviting you to participate. We all carry something within us, visible or invisible: memories, stories and traces of others that continue to live through us.

💭 What is something you carry with you? Share in the comments or via upcoming stories. It can be a single word, a feeling, or a longer story.

Anne Mei will select one submission and transform it into a painting, which will be shown during the exhibition.

“This series is a reminder that we are far more alike than we think and that no feeling is ever carried alone.”

And under Eloise van Oranje’s concept Art for Impact, 40% of all sales will be donated through My Lima Lima Foundation to support young people facing inequality of opportunity.

A little while ago I asked you ‘what is something you carry with you?’ and someone shared that as a child, they would escape into the forest to feel safe. I chose that story for this painting.

It became part of The Carriers, a new series of paintings about the things we carry with us: memories, experiences, traces of others, often unseen. I hope it brings us just a tiny bit more together. ♥️

People often ask me if my paintings are self-portraits. I think every maker draws inspiration from their own life experiences, so in a way, the work will always be autobiographical. For me, it’s more about connection, community, and sisterhood. Having lost my sister when I was only two years old, that sisterly bond is something I try to recreate in my paintings.
