This Friday marks our one-year anniversary! A full year of this 17th-century canal house filled with animals, seashells, fossils and countless wonders. A look at the life's work of fossil hunter Mary Anning (1799–1847). At just 12 years old, she uncovered the first complete ichthyosaur skeleton along the cliffs of Lyme Regis, England. Over the course of her lifetime, Anning unearthed thousands of fossils, many of them groundbreaking finds that changed our understanding of the ancient world: from marine speciments like ammonites and plesiosaurs to flying reptiles like pterosaurs.

Next month, Sotheby’s will auction Gus, one of the largest and most complete Tyrannosaurus rex specimens ever discovered, with an estimated value of $20–30 million. Its immense size is rivaled by only two other excavated T. rex specimens – one of them being Stan, whose skeletal model you can see here at Art Zoo.
