Vanaf 6 november presenteert Loods6 As if we are nothing, de eerste solotentoonstelling van multidisciplinair kunstenaar Narges Mohammadi in Amsterdam en haar grootste solopresentatie tot nu toe. Voor de monumentale Bagagehal ontwikkelt Mohammadi een volledig nieuwe reeks werken, waarin film, licht, sculptuur en asfalt samenkomen in een immersieve, site-specific installatie over zichtbaarheid, verdwijning en de vraag wie ruimte krijgt om te bestaan.
De tentoonstelling vindt haar oorsprong in persoonlijke herinneringen aan beweging tussen culturen, talen en plekken van thuishoren. Voor As if we are nothing keert Mohammadi terug naar haar jeugd in een asielzoekerscentrum, waar haar schaduw onder de felle verlichting ’s nachts uitgroeide tot een bron van angst. De langgerekte Bagagehal riep die herinnering opnieuw op en vormt het vertrekpunt voor nieuw werk over aanwezigheid, herinnering en de vaak onzichtbare positie van ongedocumenteerde mensen.

From 6 November, Loods6 presents As if we are nothing, multidisciplinary artist Narges Mohammadi’s first solo exhibition in Amsterdam and her largest solo presentation to date. For the monumental Bagagehal, Mohammadi is developing an entirely new body of work, bringing together film, light, sculpture and asphalt in an immersive, site-specific installation exploring visibility, disappearance, and the question of who is given the space to exist.
The exhibition stems from personal memories of moving between cultures, languages and places of belonging. For As if we are nothing, Mohammadi returns to her childhood in an asylum seekers’ centre, where, at night, her shadow under the harsh lighting became a source of fear. The elongated Bagagehal brought this memory back to the surface and forms the starting point for new work exploring presence, memory and the often invisible position of undocumented people.
