Who we are
We are an international team of theatre-makers, musicians, performers, and visual artists creating Q***r Quark , a documentary multimedia performance premiering at the Amsterdam Fringe Festival in September 2026.
Led by playwright and theater director Evgeniya Rudyuk , the project draws on her experience of forced migration after leaving Russia because of her anti-war stance. Through documentary theatre, live piano, aerial choreography, and video art, Q***r Quark explores experiences that words alone cannot express.
What is Q***r Quark about?
What happens after you leave your country? Can you ever truly leave if your memories, language, and sense of responsibility remain with you?
Q***r Quark follows a woman who has fled Russia but continues to exist between multiple "heres" and "theres." Inspired by the creator's own story and the life of pianist and political prisoner Pavel Kushnir , who died in a Russian detention center after protesting against the war in Ukraine, the performance explores exile, memory, loss, and the invisible ties that survive across borders.
By combining different artistic disciplines, the performance invites audiences not only to understand exile, but to feel it.
Why we need your support
Q***r Quark premiered on 10–13 September 2026 at CC Amstel, as part of Amsterdam Fringe Festival 2026 — four performances, 358 tickets sold, and reviews we're proud of: four stars from de Volkskrant, and standalone coverage from Theaterkrant, Cultuurpers and The Moscow Times.
But a show existing for four nights is not the same as a show having a future. Creating and touring an original multimedia performance takes months of artistic collaboration and technical production.
Your donation helps us complete what the premiere started: fair fees for the artists who developed this project, the set design and costumes, video, and technical production — and take Q***r Quark further, on tour across Europe.
We are proud that Q***r Quark has already received support from several Dutch and international cultural funds — such as Wilhelmina E. Jansen Fonds, Admiraal van Kinsbergenfonds, and WeExist! — and that it was selected for the Amsterdam Fringe Festival 2026.
