Sometimes your work travels further than you do. This time, all the way to Brazil.
Very happy to find my work in the new issue of ELLE Decoration Brasil/ ELLE Decoration Brasil in a story about textile art, material, poetry and the growing space it occupies within contemporary art.
They gave my part the title “Surreal Touch.” That made me smile.
Surrealism has always felt close to me. Not as a style to follow, but as a way of looking at the world. Finding the strange in the familiar. Letting materials become something else. A rope can grow, glass can become soft, a sculpture can feel like an organism and imagination doesn’t have to explain itself.
Perhaps that is what art can bring us: another way of looking at what we thought we already knew.
Thank you Lara Muniz and Míriam Scavone for seeing that in my work and putting it into words.
From Amsterdam to Brazil. Curious where the work swims next.
