One breed, 168 faces, and not one looks quite the same.

For Novogen, Dániel Szalai photographed 168 hens one by one, giving each the attention of a formal portrait. Together they may look almost identical, but spend a little time with them and individual personalities begin to appear.

These hens lay eggs used to produce vaccines and medicines. Through their portraits and images from behind the scenes, the exhibition reveals a world most of us never see — living bodies behind a highly controlled system.

Designed in 2014, Glass Series AA invites five grand old Rijksmuseum glasses back to the table. The “AA” stands for Anonymous Artists, a playful toast to the unknown makers behind the originals.

Each glass borrows a distinctive historical silhouette: dancing peasants winding around a tall flute, an elegant baluster stem, symbols of Faith, Hope and Love, a woman seated at a spinet, and scenes starring Bacchus, the god of w**e.

Inspired by the designs from the 16th to the 18th cc, the collection turns centuries of drinking history into five contemporary characters ready to raise a glass once again.

Box-o-rama turns furniture design into a digital stacking game. Developed by EventArchitectuur with Tal Erez, its simple interface lets users drag, resize and pile up virtual boxes to create their own storage piece.

Happy with your box tower? The software converts it into CNC instructions, ready to be cut from a standard 122 × 244 cm wooden sheet and clicked together with press-fit joints. The system makes sure it won’t fall apart, the rest is up to you.

With Saving Grace, energy-saving bulbs step proudly into the spotlight. Rovero treated their unfamiliar shapes and particular glow as creative material, introducing a family of glass shades that complement different bulb types while gently softening their light.

The series suggests that environmentally responsible design does not need to sacrifice atmosphere or character.

Saving Grace was presented in Milan as part of Droog’s 2008 exhibition A Touch of Green, which explored more sustainable approaches to everyday objects.

Why should a fence only keep people apart?

NEXT Architects gave the familiar boundary a much friendlier job. Share Fence turns garden tools into neighbourhood resources, Bicycle Fence offers a place to park your bike, and Table Tennis Fence invites both sides to pick up a paddle and play.

The designs were shown at Droog’s Me, Myself & You exhibition, first presented in Milan in 2001. Exploring the space between privacy and togetherness, the show highlighted how design can gently invite strangers and neighbours to become closer: sometimes with nothing more than a ball, a bicycle or a borrowed watering can.

This chair has slipped into something more comfortable. Isabel Berglund wrapped a ready-made seat in cosy woollen knit, turning its hard shell into a soft, sit-down hug. The result makes taking a seat feel a little like pulling on your favourite jumper.

Droog presents Novogen, a compelling photographic project by the Hungarian artist Daniel Szalai, which explores the hidden relationship between humans, animals and the pharmaceutical industry.

Behind the production of certain vaccines is an unexpected workforce: chickens. In Novogen project Szalai enters the tightly controlled world of Novogen White hens, specially bred to produce eggs for the pharmaceutical industry.

The exhibition combines 166 individual portraits with photographs tracing the eggs through the production process, accompanied by extracts from corporate manuals and marketing materials. Set against a blue background, the hens appear somewhere between individuals, factory workers and commercial products.

Using a calm, precise visual language, Szalai examines how technology turns living beings into measurable units of production. At its heart lies a difficult paradox: the controlled lives of these animals contribute to saving human ones.

The guests have gone but the dinner-party chaos is staying on the table. For Tableau Tablecloth, photographer Maurice Scheltens used the photogram technique to capture the outlines of plates, glasses and other leftovers in a monochrome print. Colour and texture disappear, leaving a shadowy still life of familiar shapes.

Scheltens is known for turning everything from fruit and remote controls to haute couture gowns into carefully arranged compositions. Here, it stretches across a 212 × 140 cm cotton tablecloth made for Droog.

Tableau Tablecloth was created for Value for Money project and presented during Milan’s Salone del Mobile in 2008.

Made from polyester and fibreglass, this sculptural lady doesn’t just join the party, she becomes the centre of it.

Originally created for public spaces, including the restaurant at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam, the Body Table was designed to get people talking, interacting and looking twice. Part sculpture, part furniture and impossible to ignore, it brings humour and a little provocation to the table.

In 2007, the Body Table joined Droog’s Smart Deco II exhibition in Milan, which explored decoration through experimental materials, new production techniques and a healthy dose of imagination.
