Coming up Saturday 4 June in the gallery!

Noro’s new body of work takes a look at different vices and the consequences of these within society. In these paintings, painted and collaged characters indulge in their narratives, some seem to gaze around engaged while others appear dazed as they commence in their clandestine activities. morphing objects and figures appear both abstract and figurative: Sets of eyes, Revolvers, Bambi, Saints, Chameleons. There is a strange focus on the multitude of emotional levels within these situations pointing both to the positive and negative sides of a modern life in an urban setting. In general Noro translates biographical thoughts and encounters into a painted patchwork of colours.

Coming up is a solo exhibition at PTT space in Taipei, Taiwan in October 2022 and a group exhibition ‘Narrative minds’ at Asia Art Center in Taipei, Taiwan

Also opening this Saturday an exhibition with new works by !! Very excited, these landscapes are poppin’!!!

Althuis Hofland is proud to present a small selection of recent nature-inspired paintings by artist Bart Kok (1985, Lochem, The Netherlands) in Space II.
Being fascinated by the allegories and generic themes of art history; death, ego, self-portraiture, anathesia, drugs and the sublime, artist Bart Kok's paintings deliberately flirt with the act of painting within the realm of painting itself. Influenced by artists such as Vincent van Gogh, Raoul de Keyser, Co Westerik, Joris Ghekiere, Armando, Constant Permeke, Per Kirkeby, Roger Raveel, Gustaaf de Smet, Howard Hodgkin, Leon Adriaans, Morandi, James Ensor, Giorgo de Chirico, Kok freely adapts their stylistic approaches, however bends them into a language of his own. A language leading most recently into colorful, whimsical and poetic forests that could be projections of sun or moonlight, or appear as wonderful chimera of the illusive mind.

Bart Kok (1985, Lochem, The Netherlands) graduated MA from St. Lucas Antwerp in 2015 and completed the Manama program at St. Lucas in 2017. He won the Royal award for Painting in 2016. His work is in the collection of Ahold Kunstcollectie, KPMG and Izala Zwolle, amongst others.

Coming up in the gallery: Keith Boadwee !!

Althuis Hofland Fine Arts is proud to present the first solo exhibition in The Netherlands of artist Keith Boadwee (1961, USA/ lives and works in Emeryville, California, USA).
Boadwee came of age through a conservative childhood in the sixties in Louisiana, a short period in theatre school, followed by a brief moment in NYC, ending up at UCLA under the guidance of artists Chris Burden, Paul McCarthy, Charles Ray and Roger Herman. While at UCLA, Boadwee developed a performative practice with, through and partly about the male gay/queer body. Through the years his work has been influenced by the Pre-Raphaelites, The Fauves, The Neue Wilden, David Salle, Vienna Action, David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, Punk, Cecil Beaton, Truman Capote, Andre Leon Talley, his good friend Nicole Eisenman, Bjarne Melgaard, novelists Evelyn Waugh and Kingsley Amis, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, The YBA, Ab-Ex and many more. He became widely known for his 'E***a paintings' - whereby Boadwee simultaneously critiques and honors the work of Jackson Po***ck by making abstract action paintings using his re**um as a painting instrument. This sarcastic, political, art historical and sub-cultural realm plays an important role in Boadwee's artistic practice, often pushing the boundaries of his medium. The merging of the latter elements is very evident in the collage works that Boadwee has been making since 2016 that will be on view at the gallery exhibition. Here the juxtaposition of art historical imagery and the male n**e collide into a new, profound visual language about the appreciation of the male n**e, without losing a dada-ist sense of humor
