Mijn moeder is een Russische balletdanseres vertrokken uit Moskou, mijn vader een Katwijkse visser. Zo ben ik geboren in een droomwereld met de realiteit op loopafstand. s de realiteit te laten kantelen zodat er ruimte ontstaat voor het alternatief. Het persoonlijke leven is op performatieve wijze de leidraad voor dit doorlopende onderzoek, reagerend op de gebeurtenissen van het dagelijkse bestaan is het de artistieke keuze die vooropstaat. Het werk is daardoor tegelijkertijd hyperpersoonlijk en geëngageerd. De gelaagde ideeën worden neergezet in een heldere beeldtaal, die zich op een directe manier tot schoonheid verhoudt, waarbij vragen over wat schoonheid nu eigenlijk is niet uit de weg worden gegaan. Met een gevoelige taalbeheersing en een natuurlijke, dichterlijke benadering heeft Leendert een unieke stem in het schrijven, iets wat ook in het verdere werk herkenbaar is. Zo ontstaat het werk vanuit een performativiteit die je terug vindt in de interdisciplinair aanpak. Het werk vindt op deze manier vorm in fotografie, video, installatie en performances en daarbij in taal: poëzie, korte verhalen, essays en columns. De verschillende vormen zijn de uitkomst voor het zelfde onderzoek wat er voor zorgt dat het geheel wordt gepresenteerd als een praktijk.

Throughout the process life itself is a guideline in a performative way, for this continuous research of ”understanding”, whereas the artistic choice always comes first. Reacting to daily events and personal life experiences, Leendert’s work is simultaneously hyper personal and social engaged. The layered ideas are set out in a clear visual language, which relates itself to beauty in a direct manner, whereas questioning beauty is also a part of the work. In a precise mastery of language with an instinctive and poetic approach Leendert has an authentic way in writing, a sensitivity which also recurs in the other works. Leendert adopts a interdisciplinary approach working across performance, photography, video, installation, and different forms of writing: poetry, short stories, essays and columns. This to design the outcome of researching ”understanding”. Which acts as common ground and is presented as one practice.
