Amsterdam stories & beyond

When you move from page to the stage, poetry can be music, dance, vocalization, sensual embodiment.

Ruby, .music and brought their whimsy and their spice to our latest open mic night, and proved just that.

Our next poetry night is Thursday, June 4. Stay tuned. ✨

Our blog is ON. Not once-in-a-blue-moon-on, but weekly-publications-on. And yes, we have a little pool of writers who are committed to this project, but we want to have you onboard, too. This means that you can submit original work to publish on Amsterdive.

May’s theme is — yes, you’ve guessed it — Anticipation. If you came to our last open mic you got to fill your creative well with all types of acts and play, from poetry & spoken word to song and movement. Now it’s time to put pen to paper.

Amsterdive started out as ‘s personal blog exactly ten years ago. Now it’s a collective endeavor, for all Amsterdam dwellers and exes. By writers, for writers.

The submissions link is on link in our bio.
If you’d like to read about how we got here, and find some prompts for your writing, read our latest editorial “We are in a state of anticipation” (also on link in bio).

We can’t wait to read what you have in store for us. 📝

A snippet of the piece ’s read last Thursday for Beating Heart of Hope. Or should we call it a love letter?

This story — published on This Q***r Arab Family Anthology — inspired us to embody *Coraline* in our communities, too. 🖤

Thank you, Sinin. Thank you Coraline.

The setar is an instrument that originated in Persia and it is estimated to date as far back as the 9th century.

This Thursday, we will have the great privilege of listening to Rezaw Keshmir playing traditional music of the Iranian peoples with the setar, connecting us to the wisdom and beauty of this ancient civilization via melody.

There are still some tickets left for Beating Heart of Hope, but be quick if you want to secure a seat for this evening all about friendship in times of crisis and community care.

Among us, in our communities, are fellow humans with roots and kin in places directly affected by the whims of warlords. What does being a friend and showing care mean in these circumstances?
