Which parasol would you choose to promenade with? ☂️
Strolling through the streets or riding elegantly in an open carriage, the parasol was an essential accessory for the elite in the 19th century. As carriages became more comfortable thanks to improved suspension, people increasingly took to promenading in open vehicles. Parasols were adapted accordingly: a hinge in the middle of the stick enabled the parasol to be held conveniently over the shoulder while seated. In 1839, M. Cazal invented a mechanism using a spring inside the stick to automatically open a parasol. The same mechanism is still in use today. 👒✨

Welke parasol zou jij kiezen om mee te flaneren? ☂️
Flanerend door de straten of elegant rijdend in een open koets, in de 19de eeuw was de parasol onmisbaar voor de elite. Toen rijtuigen dankzij verbeterde vering comfortabeler werden, ging men ook in open rijtuigen flaneren. Parasols werden daarop aangepast, door een scharnier in het midden van de stok kon de parasol tijdens het rijden geknikt over de schouder worden gedragen. In 1839 bedacht M. Cazal een slim mechanisme met een veer in de stok, waarmee een parasol eenvoudig kon worden uitgeklapt. Deze techniek wordt tot op de dag van vandaag gebruikt. 👒✨
