Global platform for one minute videos Artists enter into alliances with students, amateurs and young people.

The One Minutes is a global platform for experimental video art working closely with various art education institutions internationally. The One Minutes Foundation produces and distributes One Minute videos, providing an international stage for people to create, engage and connect. Using the forces of video, The One Minutes wants to contribute to creating spaces for free expression, collective imagination, and global solidarity in our different, yet deeply interconnected realities. With the series, The One Minutes is active at the forefront of international contemporary art – series are in the Whitney’s collection. The foundation is also active in education and welfare with workshops for art students and newcomers all over the world and promotes social change with The One Minutes Jr. The One Minutes Collection consists of over 15,000 video works by artists from more than 120 countries. https://theoneminutes.org/

Samson Kambalu is a Malawi-born, Oxford-based artist, writer, ethnomusicologist, and professor, associated with anti-colonial, decolonial, and memory-focused work, including the Fourth Plinth commission Antelope in Trafalgar Square. In 2015 he curated a series called ‘Nyau Cinema’ consisting of 22 One Minutes using the rules of Nyau Cinema; a series of playful site-specific performances, ‘rants’, presented as film clip interventions. Nyau is a Chewa word for ‘excess’.

Saturday 31 January in Amsterdam, The One Minutes x De Uitkijk premiere ‘UNCOMFORTABLE ENCOUNTERS’, 23 one-minute films curated by Josefin Arnell. You’re invited! 😁

Join for the screening at 21.00, followed by Arnell’s acclaimed film ‘Buurthuis 2’ with a Q&A with Josefin Arnell as she returns from her residency in Vienna, and participating artist present.

Stay for drinks afterwards. Space is limited so get your ticket fast.

If you can’t be there – stay connected for a digital premiere later this year.

The series includes 23 video works from 1999 to the present and new works submitted in 2025 from Albania, Austria, China, Egypt, France, Ghana, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Palestine, Somalia, Turkey, and United States.
