INTERVIEW - MARYA LOWRY on THE UNBOUNDARIED VOICE

To learn more about her upcoming Amsterdam workshop in August/September I had a wonderful talk with Marya Lowry.

NEW MASTERCLASS!! - SINGING AS A SWARM
Improvising as part of an ensemble that seamlessly, in split seconds, makes choices about the music together, that is the practice of Genetic Choir singing.
Without the need to define the genre of music, without a score, conductor or leader, you train the unique ability to be yourself as well as being connected, to be autonomous in your musical choices as well as building a piece of music with the singers around you.

In this masterclass for House of Voice you have the unique chance to work for two days with a small, committed group of 4 to 6 people and form an ad-hoc ensemble that explores all the possibilities and pitfalls of instant composing music together.

Be ready for an intense weekend with lots of possibilities to challenge yourself, shine, struggle, learn and shine again, and find musical magic together in places where you least expected it.

FLORA FANTASTICA

Hoe oud was jij toen je je eerste tentoonstelling opende?

Gisteren was de opening van het project Flora Fantástica bij Embassy of the Free Mind.

Heel inspirerend om dat wat je vooral van papier als penvoerder kent tot leven te zien komen.

De crux voor ons om mee te doen was de aanpak van de docenten: een manier van werken om niet voorgekauwd, maar het kind volgend, over kunst te praten en kunst te maken.

In beeld, tekst en audio komt de verbeelding van de kinderen tot leven en laten ze hun nieuwgevonden stem horen.

Na Den Haag is Amsterdam de tweede locatie voor Flora Fantastica. Er volgen nog twee workshopseries met tentoonstelling:

> Eind augustus in Amstelveen (CobraMuseum)
> Eind oktober Alphen a/d Rijn (Bibliotheek)

FLORA FANTASTICA.

Stichting metStem is penvoerder van dit innemende project.

Annet Breure, projectleider, over de opzet:

In vier lessen reiken we vier verschillende prenten uit de collecties van de Koninklijke Bibliotheek, Museum Embassy of the Free Mind of het Cobra museum en verschillende beeldende technieken aan.

De kinderen worden gestimuleerd goed te kijken. Vervolgens geven ze uitdrukking aan hun interpretatie en eigen verhaal geïnspireerd op de historische afbeeldingen.

Op hun b***t zijn de verhalen van de kinderen inspiratie voor een fantasievol en vernieuwend audiowerk dat samen met de originele en door de kinderen gemaakte beelden een fantastische tentoonstelling vormt.

This is Roy Hart, in action.

Let us talk a bit about him and explain why we organise workshops in his name.

Roy Hart was a student of the well-known voice teacher Alfred Wolfsohn. After Wolfsohn’s death Roy Hart continued his research into the human voice and started the Roy Hart Theatre. The people he worked with are now living and teaching all over the world.

There are a few teachers in the Nederland that teach in the spirit of The Roy Hart Theatre. Zwaan de Vries is the only official Roy Hart teacher in the Netherlands.

With Zwaantje en we regularly invite Roy Hart teachers from all over the world to give workshops and masterclasses, here in the Netherlands.

Why?

Because we believe this way of working with the voice is unique and not broadly known, but very beneficial and helpful for both professional and amateur voice users.
