We - Oliver, Thalia, Katie-Lee and Bear - invite you to our effort to develop an explicitly q***r contact improvisation dance space in Amsterdam. By calling it 'q***r' we mean that all sexual/gender identities are welcome (cis-gender or heterosexual orientations too), but we intend to exclude the kinds of body shame and normativities that may make members of the q***r community hesitate to try c
ontact improvisation in other spaces. Contact improvisation is dance improvisation which can include (but is not limited to) physical contact between two or more people. By using the physical principles of touch, shared weight and momentum, the dancers may explore leaning, rolling, counterbalance, easy lifting and being lifted. We will describe and adhere to simple principles of safety, sensitivity and communication that make this dance a curious and enjoyable mutual exploration.
Contact Improvisation is a radically inclusive practice, a dance for all bodies. Developed in the 1970's as a protest against rigid, heteronormative gender norms in modern dance, this form has been evolving as a social dance, open and accessible to people of all ages, bodies, and backgrounds. It has become popular throughout the globe, and developed in many interesting directions. For more history and information on this dance form --
